Zodd1888
So I was perusing through the usual 40k sites and found an article on ITC tournament lists that have placed Top 3. Reading through I saw a lot of what you'd expect, with a few Blood Angels in the mix. I scrolled a little lower and saw this: 25 Astra Militarum 25 Ynnari 21 Chaos Space Marines 19 Ultramarines 16 Daemons 9 Tyranids 7 Orks 6 T’au Empire 6 Death Guard 4 Sisters of Battle 4 Space Marines 4 Grey Knights 4 Blood Angels 3 Officio Assassinorum 3 Genestealer Cults 3 Adeptus Mechanicus 2 Imperial Knights 2 Renegade Knights 1 Eldar 1 Space Wolves 1 Adeptus Custodes 1 Dark Angels When I saw that I was a little shocked with Dark Angels, though I get it, and the remainder was expected. What I didn't expect was 0 Thousand Sons representation. I know the Codex is relatively new but it surprises me to see zero activity. I know one of thr guys from Canhammer is rolling Enlightened, 54+, but it's crazy to me to me to not see anything on the board. So, with that said, what do you guys think? I think that there are some gems in the book but I haven't figured out the combos. I've been delving into Abe for the leadership on my Goat hordes but I still can't pull past the extremes out there. Raven1
If people are running Thousand Sons it is in a Chaos soup list. You generally see Tzaangor Bombs, Tzaangor enlightened, and Magnus. But due to how the rules work for deciding how your faction works, you don't see Thousand Sons because they are usually taken in conjunction with demons or chaos space marines. Plus Thousand Sons are a relatively new faction that hasn't had support over multiple editions of the game and they are good but not the point efficient type things you see in tournament lists. Zodd1888
I think out most efficient units are the Enlightened. They're a max of 9, spears aren't bad for assault and bows are good for poking down our prey. Tzaangors are good for the bomb and double attacks. I wish the character hunter special trait was reroll wounds though as Goats hit on 2's with a Shaman regardless, and will likely be in range of someone for RR 1's. Daemon Princes are just solid, as is Ahriman. What other Tzeentchy bits do you guys use when you're trying to WAAC? Jorin Helm-splitter
Like Raven1 said it has more to do with army construction. Its so easy to build lists that centered around the best units for a fraction (Chaos/Imperium/etc.) that its tough for most codex to make a dent on that list. Most of the armies that are well represented either have no allies, or have the best troop choices/HQ units. For example Craftworld Eldar which between dark reapers and the Alaitoc detachment bonus are very strong, only have 1 but they build the backbone of those 25 Ynnari lists. I think if soup were banned or had more drawbacks Thousand Sons would show up because we have a well rounded codex. Scammel
More to the point, I'm pretty sure the Sons book wasn't actually on shelves when some of these events took place. The list is a late Jan/Feb roundup, so the book wasn't merely relatively new. Arachnofiend
Adepticon was the first high profile tournament the codex was legal for; Thousand Sons did appear in the Top 8 there, as a third of a chaos soup list (unsurprisingly it was Ahriman, the DPoT, and a bunch of tzaangors). Raven1
There was a number of other Chaos soup lists at Adepticon that featured TS they just didn't make it to the top tables. So far the codex is just being cherry picked for the best units and added in a smaller detachment. Regardless, i think it is neat they are seeing any real representation on the tabletop. snowydude
I take a supreme command of demon Prince, ahriman. And a sorc in Termy armour. Just for the spells. I imagine that's what most people do as well Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346220-itc-tournament-lists-a-question-of-concern/#findComment-5065347 Share on other sites
