Manchu warlord
Years ago, we (me and my friends) heard a rumor that Dan Abnett is going to write an HH novel called "Dreadwing", which, as the name implies, is suppose to feature the Dreadwing hexagrammaton of the 1st legion. Then "Angels of Caliban" came out, my anticipation of an Abnett HH Dark Angels novel was quelled (not in a bad way at all), and so, I accepted this book (Angels of Caliban) as the one being rumored all along. Now, recently, I saw on WH40k Wikia that Dreadwing still appears to be in pending. And here in this interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8PRl0nSh2I (at 13:27) Dan Abnett himself says he going to do the Dreadwing novel. If you guys have any information, news, or ideas at all regarding Dreadwing, please share. JH79
I believe the info you've sourced is incorrect and quite out of date, the upload of the vid for example was way back in 2014. When Black Library were given back their autonomy from Games Workshop a few years ago, LJG was tasked with getting the HH back on track. As such one of the many alterations he had to make was the purging several titles, one of which was Dreadwing. As i understand it some of the elements that were going to make up that proposed novel were assimilated into Angels of Caliban. It's funny but as we draw closer to the end i lament missed opportunities such as Dreadwing and more recently Beta-Garmon Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346256-dan-abnett-on-dreadwing/#findComment-5056097 Share on other sites
Phoebus
Manchu, I hate to say this, but that interview is from 2014 — two years before Angels of Caliban was released. Given that Abnett is talking about the novel taking place in Macragge, I think it’s safe to say that this ship has sailed, and that Thorpe essentially inherited the concepts that were going to be showcased in Dreadwing. DarkChaplain
As for Beta-Garmon, we're getting a novel, via Guy Haley iirc. He had just been commissioned in time for the Weekender though iirc, so it may not be happening until next year. Ascanius
There's a report from just after the 2016 Horus Heresy Weekender here that explains it: Angels of Caliban - Novel, Gav Thorpe. Dan Abnett's Dreadwing has been shelved and folded into this book. The Goodreads post mentions that some elements of the list came from blogs or interviews, so it's possible this tidbit is from there; I seem to recall hearing it discussed on a podcast interview, but I can't remember if it was with Abnett or Thorpe, let alone which podcast! I missed that bit of news but of we are getting a Beta-Garmon novel via Guy Haley then that is good news. I was sure I had read the opposite though... That Beta Garmon is being "reserved" for the Forgeworld Studio and the new Adeptus Titanicus game and would not therefore be explored in a BL book. Yeah, I was under the impression that Beta-Garmon, particularly the 'Titandeath', was essentially being skipped over by BL. I thought the news from the Nov.2017 weekender was that John French's Slaves to Darkness is going to be set post-Beta-Garmon. If so I wonder if it will be a main numbered novel or a side story style release as per Betrayal at Calth, one book for the Loyalists and one book for the traitors? I assume it'd make a great tie in to a HH Boxed Game via Games Workshop... carlisimo
I think the Beta-Garmon news came out of the 2018 Weekender - it’s become a bigger thing than they originally intended. (Last year they’d said it’d be a FW black book only.) The novel may be a tie-in to Adeptus Titanicus now that it’s been delayed until this fall. Guy Haley seems to be good with tie-ins… and he probably also gets them because he’s good at staying on schedule. I’d rather the BL series cover everything well instead of rushing at the finish, Abnett-style. Taliesin
Haley is definitely doing the Beta Garmon HH novel, he has confirmed it, has just started on it. When it was mentioned at the Weekender it had only just been commisioned. It will not tie in with Adeptus Titanicus in terms of release date as that now seems to release in August, and the novel will not be ready for release then or in adjoining months. Manchu warlord
I thought John French's "Slaves to Darkness" was the one to cover Beta-Garmon, but then again I'm wrong.Aren't I always wrong or what?Speaking of Slaves to Darkness, anyone know what that's suppose to be about?Considering this thread was originally designed to provide me with insights regarding Dreadwing. Now, after the first two posts, I realized my ignorance, and am now enlightened.Lets as well turn this thread into a Beta-Garmon/pre-Siege discussion. Fire Golem
Isn’t Slaves to Darkness about the traitor Primarchs preparing for Terra? Yeah found this snippet from last November: ‘We were however given some great hints as to what we can expect. They advised us that John French is working on a novel called Slaves to Darkness. This story will be the final one before the push to Terra, and it will involve Horus gathering all his forces and allies for the final push. This book will be a who’s who of traiter Primarchs, containing all of them apart from Konrad Curze. The Ultramarines will make appearances as they attempt to slow down the advance of Horus. We were advised that Chaos will also make a contribution to this novel as the bargains that certain Primarchs have made with them are explored.’ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346256-dan-abnett-on-dreadwing/#findComment-5058615 Share on other sites
carlisimo
Are the Death Guard finally getting a book of their own? I thought Slaves to Darkness would be it, but maybe not.
