Nothing amazing, but Dark Vengeance Chosen can be legal now. I'd still rather take possessed for those few points more over power axe chosen. You can also give them plasma pistols not feel silly that they can't take power weapons at the same time.

Sadly no change to Fallen.

You can also have a hammer/scourge helbrute, or a helbrute with paired power scourges (12 attacks on a charging world eaters one).

Combiflamers and chainswords for everyone!

Combi-bolters and power swords imo.

My thoughts were various combinations of the above. Staying fairly cheap, but giving a decent threat for shooting and melee. I know it means I won't have much use for Possessed, until a decent Daemons force is bolstered for support.

It fixes the equipment issues of the models, but I'm not sure how 'crazy' it makes them, apart from crazy expensive.the main problem with chosen has been and continues to be poor durability for their points cost, something that giving them the option to spend even more points on weapons doesn't really help with.

I agree.

I think World Eaters Chosen with chainswords are a decent enough choice now, though not ObSec. I want to try out many permutations for fun, though. Combi-bolters are still reasonable, and with chainswords that's an OK configuration too. Not great.

All Dark Vengeance Chosen are legal now, except the Champion. Per the wording on the new rules, the Chosen Champ can still only have 2 weapons for some reason.

"Any Chosen may take one item from the Melee Weapons list"

The Chosen Champion is still a Chosen. If someone tried to rules-lawyer me with that, I'd just walk away because they're clearly going to be "That Guy".

I was under the impression this was an understood aspect of the datasheet. Had the intent been that any model could take the option, it would say "any model" as is seen in some datasheets. Am I mistaken? Has this been addressed somewhere? I'm sure I come across as "that guy" but it is only to pre-empt the "that guy" I will inevitably come across, since the last tournament I played in had a guy trying to tell me I wasn't following the rules of my army right. I was, but I had to prove it.

Huh, now that I reread the entry, yeah. That's weird. So the Champion can only have two weapons, but the rest of the squad can have a Boltgun, Bolt pistol and melee weapon. Wat

Am I reading this correctly; 5 combi-bolters in a squad? + a special weapon option?

4 chosen + squad leader + a special weapon chosen? That is a heck of alot of Dakka

That's correct, but was the same it has always been - most people (myself included until recently) miss the fact that they can take a special weapon ontop of the 4 chosen with combibolters and the champion with combi-bolter.

As for the champion not being able to have 3 weapons, at least it makes it consistent with other units - for example, in a bike squad every model can swap their bolt pistol for a chainsword (even those with special weapons) but if the champion wants a combi-bolter, he has to swap his pistol for it, meaning no chainsword.

Which I guess means every biker gets 2 attacks in melee, which simplifies things.

People should probably read it again. The Champion is specifically allowed to take a melee weapon OR swap two items for Champion Equipment, so he can totally have something like a Power Fist, Bolter, Bolt Pistol. He just can't do something like Combi-Plasma, Power Fist, Bolt Pistol.

Combi-Bolter + Power weapon is neat and definitely a buff for Chosen, however overall it's still just okay-ish.

Grey Knight Strike Squads are the same thing just with Force Weapons, Psyker and Deep Strike and while they're one of the best units in the GK Codex it's not a unit that's rocking tournaments or whatever.
