Montford
Seems not bad. Adjusting my lists shouldn't be too difficult. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346291-faq/#findComment-5057640 Share on other sites
Shiboinky
I feel it might have been a little heavy handed of a points increase on the Warlocks, but everything else is totally fair. Karhedron
I feel it might have been a little heavy handed of a points increase on the Warlocks, but everything else is totally fair. Agreed. The problem is that Warlocks are worth much less than a mere 10 points less than a Spiritseer. Spiritseers are still going to be prefferable if you want access to Runes of Battle. On the same basis, the Hemlock got slightly better. On a similar note, the Farseer price bump makes Eldrad look a little shinier by comparison. Previously he was 50% more than a standard Farseer but about 50% better. He is still 50% better but now only 36% more points. Farseer and Autarch Skyrunners also look better as their prices have not changed which effectively makes the extra wounds and toughness from the jetbike cheaper. My lists seem to have gone up by about 5% on average so some annoying trimming will be required. On the plus side, all my lists feature a Battalion so I have 2 more CPs to play with. I actually wonder if dual-battalion might be worthwhile. This is going to be slightly harder due to the loss of cheap warlock HQs. Webway bomb is now harder to pull off. Some armies have gone crazy with the assault alpha strike (Nids anyone?) so I can see why the changes were necessary but I feel some armies have been hit with collatoral damage. At least we don't need to worry about screening on Turn 1 quite so much now. Reapers got a fair price increase and with the reduction in alpha-strikes stand a chance of staying around longer. Shiboinky
A agree with every point there. I still can't think of a situation where I would take the warlock over the spiritseer. And many other HQ choices became slightly more appealing. I usually like to play with many troops on the board and think that my guardian bomb will still be valid unless flexible. I sometimes dropped them turn 1 to block of a portion of the board, but usually waited until turn 2 or 3 where the enemy is spread out and near a large piece of cover. They tend to be a more lasting threat this way. The buff to battalions has me considering running dual battalions. Our troops are not bad by any means and having 13 command points for ~500 points seems pretty good to me. Marshal Wolfhart
Warlocks didn't deserve this, they were the suboptimal pick at 35 points already. Now i think skyrunners are at the fore, as well as Eldrad, as Kharedron mentioned. I feel like mass Avegners with Asurmen might prove worthwhile, the 4++ makes them somewhat sturdy and , at least for two battalions, you wouldn't want 4+ serpents to protect basic infantry. The FAQ in general i really like, though i rarely had trouble screening first turn deepstrikes. What really keeps me guessing is, while they nerf the op flavor of the month, when will they start buffing the sub par choices too? My scorpions long for a reason to get painted and my support batteries really want to rain death on hordes... :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346291-faq/#findComment-5058551 Share on other sites
Jorin Helm-splitter
https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/04/16/warhammer-40000-big-faq-1-the-low-downgw-homepage-post-1fw-homepage-post-2/ So the FAQ and errata are out. Our psychic characters went up in points a bit, same as Dark Reapers (they deserved it, maybe). I don't think there is any "maybe" on if dark reapers deserved a point increase lol. I expect another one with the next chapter approved (or possibly the September-October update). They still are the best devastator style unit the game, and people are still going to run ~20 of them in tournament lists. The warlock change was the one I saw as questionable, but overall it was pretty faq for Eldar. I never brought mine (one five strong squad) past turn two, no matter if they were in cover, alaitoc, lightning fast reflexes, fortuned and protected all at once AND screened from deep strikers. They're just t3 3+ sv 1w, their special rule doesn't help against death by stiff breezes. It's when ten pop out of a transport or the webway, word of the phoenix in their back pocket, when they get broken. I understand i can pick those combos too, and to a degree i understand the overall flakk they get. But the problems is not the Reapers themselves imo. Jorin Helm-splitter
Reapers have a weapon that is better than most of the other devastator style units choices, costs less, and they have a low base cost. That is leaving out the always hit on 3+ in the shooting phase, which is really good ability this edition. A squad of five is going to struggle to stay on the board but a lot of people were taking 20 lol. Karhedron
Interestingly, I have heard anecdotally that the meta is already starting to shift in response to the FAQ. The new hotness seems to mechanised forces with minimal infantry. Wave Serpents (some of them empty) and aircraft (I am guessing Alaitoc) make up the bulk of the lists. The idea seems to be to confront the enemy with an army of highly mobile T7 targets with stacked to-hit and damage modifiers. Whilst not massive on the damage dealing front, they are really hard to bring down, especially with liberal use of "Lightning Fast Reflexes".
