Wispy's Wolves - 2/10/19 - Grey Slayers

Hey, folks. Long time no see.

Decided to do a round of photography on my most recent models from the past year. I think, finally, I've found lighting and camera combo I'm happy with.

Hope to continue this and update it regularly for the next little bit. Without further ado...

I really like those Wolf Guard. The Iron Priest body is my favourite. I like the way they all have claws even when it’s a powerfist. The grey colour is really nice. They all look great.

Russ is wicked and you’ve done a great job on the wolves too. Nice colour choices.

The whole lot is great, well done Wispy.

Thank you! My lore for the Wolf Guard is they're the 'Fell Claws' pack, a sort of vanguard Harald assembled and equipped when he learned Bjorn the Fell-Handed would be joining his Company for a battle. Idea is they would deep strike and eliminate any heavy ordnance that could threaten Bjorn with their meltaguns.

For the power fists, I actually use the bionic thunderwolf claws as fingers. The other two guys use lightning claws fron the prospero box. The Wolf Guard using the Geigor model has his own claw, of course.

Great idea for them. The powerfists are really good like that. I can see the parts now. The claws really tie them all in together. Also really like the fact they all have different armour, it’s like they are veterans from different parts of the great company.

Do you have a camera you recommend? I’ve been improving my photography but I’m still using my phone. I’ve got two daylight lamps now I’m happy with but considering getting a camera. My group shots are coming out blurry for a start.

What’s your setup for the photos?

unfortunately, I've been struggling with photography for a long time. My go-to solution for a long time used to be my old cannon powershot. it's a simple camera, but I'd used it with a desk lamp and a roll of paper towels (as a curved backdrop) and it always seemed to take beautiful photos and get the job done. this is probably the last photo i took with this setup:

my new camera is still a powershot, but it's newer and all the settings inside are all different and it's been a struggle for me to reproduce my old results with it (it also doesn't have the vibrant colour option anymore, which I abused on my old camera). I also added a lightbox to the mix, which has been it's own challenge to balance. The camera has all the settings you need to get it adjusted though, just have to experiment. It has a macro and an sample white-balance option (samples your white backdrop and adjusts the colours based on that), which i think is all you need with miniatures.

Wispy your stuff looks great. You have gotten even better since last time I've seen you post stuff.

How do you paint your gold?

...i have gotten better! Thank you! I'm very happy where my skill is these days, and the quality with my new stuff vs my old stuff is actually driving me nuts. I don't want to throw out my old stuff but it bothers me that none of troops are up to par anymore... But i dont want to paint 30 greyhunters again, either!

For gold, i just use those age of sigmar paints. Retributor Armour Base, Followed by a layer of Liberator gold. I hit it with earthshade wash and then edge highlight it with rune fang steel

Love this stuff - where is that dread claw from??

Cheers,

GM

They're the Wolf Claws from the Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought kit. Everything was done just using leftover bits from that kit.

I trimmed the ends of the redemptor fingers and trimmed the base of the wolf claws and glued them together.
