Dawneagle assembly for painting?

Recommended Posts

Mine I just assembled ad bike and removable rider, and even that's only for transport and because my cloth will be white and I figure having it away from the bike for painting will help. The rider seems to fit snuggly so I'm not worried there.

I am curious to see some bases though. Still not sure how mine will be done.

When I assemble the bikers, I don't stick on the rider, the dashboard, the guns, the foot rests, the exhausts pipes on either side of the bike and the pipes at the back of the bike, so I can paint them properly.

I then paint those separately and just neatly glue them in.

However, if I did it again, then I'd spray all four main parts of the bike chaos black and then spray the 2 front parts separate with gold and paint them up, before glueing them together. That way, there's no hard to paint areas and I don't have to worry about over painting other parts of the model.

Okay guys I’m desperately trying to get a new squad put together for a tournament.... is anyone going to spill the beans on how they magnetized the base stem to the bike?

I think it was in one of dtse's vids on YouTube.

Since you're busy, I'll save you the time!

No magnetisation, just push-fit.

Thank you, but that’s not what I mean. I did my first bikes as push fit. It did not feel too secure. I worried wear and tear would reduce the friction in the long run.

My next bikes I followed someone else’s advice on the BnC. Basically they said if you use super glue on the stem tip...the knob, it would slightly expand it but be forgiving enough place the bike on more securely.

I tried that as well and while it did work well, I found it needed reapplication after some time because of wear.

Now that army is sold so I’m starting from scratch.

So I’d kind of like to magnetize the bases but am not sure how other people did it.

Fair enough! Hope you find a way you're happy with then :)

Fantastic info. Thank you very much.

Not entirely sure if I like the height of the ball/disk apparatus. Poses are a nice touch though, however with those polarized disks on the ball socket stem, I could still insert rare earth magnets into the bike housing and it would be a nice, secure fit. (I think). It wouldn't be pose-able but I'm okay with that.... as long as it's secure.

The only question is how long will it take to get here... I have very little time for my crazy project. (if it's going to fly at all.)

Thanks again for the great info, even if it doesn't work out for me right now, I'll definitely grab some of those for this project.

BTW: the biker looks fantastic. Great job on the paints. :tu:

Thank you! It's not photographed, but I went back and lowered the base of the stem (I'll post a finished squad later). There's some good UK and Canada-based magnet sites as well, but you'll have to do your own metrics conversions

All I did was drill out the hole with a 5mm bit, and fitted a 5x3 magnet, I then snipped off the ball on the plastic stem, filed it flat, and glued another 5x3 to that. Once the bike is on it you don't see the magnet on the stem really. And the 5x3 is wide enough and strong enough to be very secure.

Thank you for that. That's actually a fins solution, but 5mm wide... I actually have 5x1's and never even thought of trying to wedge them into the bike hull. Also I never thought they'd stay super glued to the plastic stems! Thanks for the insight.

I reckon you can cut the ball in half for more contact surface :) maybe something like epoxy to really get it to set properly.
