allegedlynerdy
Hello, A super secret project I've been working on has brought me to ask a question of you guys- does the imperial guard have combat engineers. By this I mean combat ready personnel with skills and aptitudes in the construction of fortifications, bridges, whatever might be needed to be put up (or taken down) quickly on the battlefield. Would these personnel fall under the command of a regiment, or the command of the Munitorum? Would they carry any specialist gear? And would they have any special markings to denote them as combat engineers? Thanks in advance Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346596-imperial-guard-combat-engineers/ Share on other sites
Noserenda
The Imperial Guard can do anything soldier! :D My original 2nd/3rd ed guard army had a platoon of combat engineers (Armoured fist squads) just took catachans and added a ton of extra tools and bits, mostly to the Chimeras. Tirak
Yes the Guard make extensive use of sappers. Because of the diverse range of regiments, you're pretty much good to go on any sort of symbols. However they would likely make use of things like Trojan support vehicles, Atlas recovery tanks, Dozer blades on everything and for some reason I have a strong association between combat engineers and flame weapons. Danny Cyanide
The Death Korps of Krieg make heavy use of combat engineers, most notably used to mine tunnels beneath enemy positions! allegedlynerdy
...they would likely make use of things like Trojan support vehicles... Lore wise, is the Trojan amphibious like the chimera? Tirak
Lore wise it is a chimera with a crane out the back hatch so yeah, it would be amphibious. Cap'm Heckus
Add back packs to them and use heads with visors (scout heads with night vision goggles work nicely too). The old fantasy dwarf kits had lots of wrenches and other tools you can add to them. Make them look like they are prepared for any engineering emergency. If you have the hand for it, you could paint some kind of engineer symbol of your own devising. For PDF I use Cadians in blue fatigues as my Royal army and catachan models in grey fatigues as my grubby mining guilders (combat engineers). I modeled a trio of man-portable mining laser teams for them too. Ulrik_Ironfist
To represent them on the tabletop, I'd use SWS with meltas and demo charges. Maybe it's not optimal, but it could be fun.
