WickedJester1013
Interested in a daemonkin army of nurgle, and got to thinking if one of these troops are better than the other or in what setting would you want one over the other. Also I’m curious in a perfect world( ie all buffs, typhus and magic for pox, and heralds and magic for plague) and a realist( ie little to no buffs/synergies). Seems that plague marines are decent with some rhinos and blight launchers, and sitting on points and I only hear of cultists in regards to pox walkers. BlackTriton
Cultist I like them as cheap tax filler, and a big blob to use the stratagem on. also, AutoGun are useful to target other chaff unit. Moral is the problem, if you kill 20 you kill 30, and its easier to kill 20 cultists than 20 poxwalker or 20 Plague bearers. Poxwalker I like when I am facing melee oriented armies. the moral immunities with the multiplication is very valuable. its also a good buff magnet with a lot of characters, powers and strat that benefit large unit. PlagueBearers are better than poxwalker out of the box. They can do the job of being tough and taking space better, and you can deepstrike them. There are a lot of synergies for them in the daemon codex, but thats expensive for a deathguard list. In a Daemon engine list, they would be my go to. Get expensive fast though. Plague marine do a completely different role than other troops, so its hard to compare them. Depending on what you need, a mix might be where its at. 30/40 cultist will give you some guns and value with tide of traitor, but probably cost you more point just to have them stay around to use it. Poxwalker are dependable, they do not die that easily and can actually be dangerous in combat with buff from character you might want to take anyway. Plague Bearers cost a lot to make work, especially in a Deathguard list, but they are one of the best Horde unit in the game with some of the best synergies. Dallas Drake
If you're happy to sit back and absorb the enemy or plod to the middle field then Plaguebearers have a place, T4 with 5++/5+++ and a -1 to hit is decent and hard to shift. If however you want fast moving units then I'd be tempted to have Plague Marines and use cheap Cultists to sit back and camp, there is some merit to Poxwalkers as they ignore moral but they are pretty slow so it might come down to points or what models you prefer the look of. I personally don't think any of the 3 are a bad choice, Nurglings too are also a great unit, although admittedly a tad less so post FAQ. WickedJester1013
How have nurglings been touched this FAQ? As far as I know you can still deploy them forward of the battle lines if that is what you meant. The feel I was looking for is my deathguard warband is focused on bringing papa nurgle’s garden into the material. I like the idea of smaller squads of deathguard infiltrating a planet and letting the seeds of corruption deep in and take root. I liked the idea of a few 5 man squads with the blight launchers sitting mid range and the poxwalkers/plaguebearers confronting the enemy and contesting objectives. I want to take a great unclean one when possible because I love that model, I love the plague casters and want to take two, or 1 and the blighthauler?(the stinky guy with the awesome gun), then maybe round off with a Winged DP and some fire power in the form of drones or PBC. BlackTriton
Nurglins are not nerfed so much as they are not as needed anymore. Blight-hauler is the cute fart cart, you mean the BlightSpawn! Blight spawn, Plague caster, Biologus and 5 plague marine in a rhino... that's the begining of every good Nurgle story Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346598-plague-bearers-or-pox-walkers/#findComment-5065990 Share on other sites
WickedJester1013
Ah yes the blight spawn! Nurgle’s septic tank! You could argue that since nurgling are one of the few units that can be outside of the battling first time, they might be even more need! DuskRaider
I'd say Plaguebearers, but I'd add that you'd be better off running them as an allied Chaos Daemons detachment. The various Heralds do so much to boost PBs that it's ridiculous, not even mentioning the Psyker powers. bozo69pd
Nurglins are not nerfed so much as they are not as needed anymore. I disagree, but I play ITC rules. I want them to hold every objective and quadrant that I can get to right from the get go. Also, usually it is one lonely little nurglings base that survives the storm of fire to score linebreaker. I mix it up, all the units are good and like others pointed out it depends on what you usually fight. Cultists will die to moral if they get sharted on though.
