Coruscating Beam, seen any action?

My group does not like prohibitive rules so we are not enforcing the 2 new Beta rules BUT to lessen the possibility of someone running soup lists you get 5cps instead of 3cps for being battleforged and adhering to the new beta rule. 

 

So that means in a battalion army you will have 10cps in our group. So yeah I've used the beam strat but it has either worked or... not. I dont recommend it.

I've used it as a joke when I had extra CP. Once I got 3 IG tanks, a character with them, and the squad that had just piled out of a destroyed transport. Lucky rolls hit all of them for negligible damage to vehicles, 3 to character 2 to squad. That is as good as it gets and still not worth 3cp imo.

I've used it once so far, mostly just to see what would end up happening. Ended up doing some damage to several units of Crisis suits, a commander, and scragglers of a fire warrior squad. Was it worth it? In this particular case, it did more damage then i would have been able to do otherwise, plus i was also able to make the CP back thanks to my teammate. Would i reliably use it? No. I dont think so.

It was mentioned in the OP that it was expensive and unpredictable so no shock there, we can all agree though nice to hear from folks that have experimented with it. I might be willing to pay 2 CP for it in friendly games maybe a desperate attempt or hope for a longshot Infernal Gateway effect.

 

Similar to Icon of Flame a bit of a wasted opportunity though with some tweaking could be effective.

 

 

From a mechanic standpoint I am not sure as increasing mortal wound output could be too much on the off chance it has a lucky effect. Deceeasing the cost to 2 seems a reasonable way or the strat gets totally reworked.

 

If we can collect some good ideas, like the Icon thread we (and/ or myself) can complile and send in for feedback. Maybe plant some seeds for the next CA.

 

As it stands were stuck with em so why not.
