Outflank melta longfangs with a wgpl in termi armour and a cyclone missile launcher with storm shield.

Drop in Njall with them to give the biggest in range threat -1 to hit and then slap cover on them just in case the terminator does drop and you have a very scary unit.

It’s very easy for these chaps to destroy even a baneblade in 1 round

Just to be clear, when you outflank, the LF are all at -1 to hit because they count as having moved, correct? So with 4 MM shots, you are on average gonna wound once on a T8 unit, or perhaps not at all on a T9+ unit. Having reroll 1s can help a bit (I tend to roll a LOT of 1s on my first roll), but it feels like you won't get your points back most of the time before that unit gets pasted.
this is the main reason I use regular melta and plasma on the squad. no penalty when they arrive
I have to ask. How do you use regular Meltas and Plasma on LF? I read the entry over and over and I don't see where it says you can take Special or Comhi weapons on them.

Not sure if I understand you correctly but long fangs can't take regular melta and plasma according to the index.

The pack leader and wolf guard pack leader can take them (2 in the squad like GHs but rerolling 1s)

The LF pack leader can take a plasma gun, but not melta. The wgpl can take a combi, and that is it. Useful for some applications, but definitely not suited for big game hunting.

"The Long Fang Pack Leader may replace his boltgun and bolt pistol with a plasma pistol or an item from the Space Wolves Special weapons lists."

Imperial Index p.167

Special weapons include melta

Whether you think it is useful is personal preference

Wow, I'm sorry, I'm evidently blind. I'm gonna guess PG-only was a 7e thing, and I did not read the new rules carefully enough. Thanks for the clarification.

Your long fangs have been defending their bastion too long. Time to rotate out for rest and rearming

You still get to reroll 1’s even when hitting on a 4+?

It all depends on overall plan. If you make a unit of melta fangs pop up next to your opponents big tanks. And you also have a unit of Wulfen appearing in their face (either from transport or on the hunt) it’s not an easy choice for which threat to nullify.

I’ve only had a couple of games where longfang deepstrike has gone messed up

The way most people are using suggesting, they kit up Long Fangs with mid range weapons at close range within 12" to maximise use of melta and overcharged plasma.

My suggestion is still to keep the heavy weapons on some of the Fangs, and outflank them the enemy further at distance of up to 36". Not with multi melta since that is horrendously overcosted, but maybe one or two lascannons/missile launcher in that squad.

More expensive but more safer if you plan to keep the Long Fangs hanging around longer. But that is more of my general plan, since my main DPS comes from my 3-4 Twin assault cannon Razorbacks, so even sacrificing Long Fangs to keep the pressure off my Razorbacks is acceptable.

for annoyance factor, I still use the Grey Hunters despite lack of reroll 1s since their goal is mainly distraction and annoyance as oppose to pure dps. Sometimes, 2 6-man MSU squads can withstand a ridiculous amount of firepower, if they dedicate more than 4 units worth to remove the distraction, then the job is done.

My issue with this fluff wise is that's the role our greatly experienced uber scouts should be doing not long fangs or grey hunters. We seriously need wolf scouts to get a buff.

Yeah, come to think of it, not very fluffy......  but not completely outrageous either, using Cunning of the Wolf on Grey Hunters and Long Fangs. Shows we are more flexible and cunning than the other static heavy weapons teams.

Dunno what to do with scouts though. Reroll 1s? maybe infiltrate distance can be like Calidus assasin, 3+D6 instead of 9" so we can get closer to assassinate or tie up? Maybe lobbing a demolition charge of some sort?

Off topic though, lets discuss scouts another thread.

Make it fluffy! just make them the last survivors of the Firehowlers from the fall of Cadia and you've got a bunch of dudes not afraid to die.
