Rule Clarification: Geminae as a warlord?

Recommended Posts

Alright, bunch of us were thinking.

Rule book states that any model can be warlord, but only characters can receive the warlord trait.

So what if, I pick one of the Geminae as my warlord?

a) Can I even do that?

:cool.: Does she receive the warlord trait?

c) is it even a good idea, as Celestine would lose her extra attack, but also you can afford her to die in combat, while protecting your actual warlord.

d) how the hell do I justify this in my head canon?

Whats the rules on targeting Celestine?

On her own she has less than 10 wounds. The Geminae have less than 10 wounds, but together, they have more and they are a single unit, so can they be targetted?

"A CHARACTER can only be chosen as a target in the Shooting phase if they are the closest visible enemy UNIT to the model that is shooting"

So yes, it seems that you are correct, if Celestine is accompanied by two geminae, she is considered over 10 wounds, remove one, and she/They are at 9.

Another edit: it would rather seem that they all are individually characters. So a unit of 3 models with wound characteristics of 2, 2 and 7....

IDK

Furthermore there is no indication that Geminae would not inherit the keyword Character in their datasheet

EDIT: this was FAQ

Page 67 – Matched Play Mission Rules, Targeting Characters Change the first sentence to read: ‘An enemy Character with a Wounds characteristic of less than 10 can only be chosen as a target in the Shooting phase if it is both visible to the firer and it is the closest enemy model to the firer.’

note the difference in model / unit. Does this make it different tho?

I took tha index 6+ fnp on Celestine once and then couldn’t figure out if it applied to the gems too.

I no longer run her as my warlord to avoid confusion...

You must nominate a model as a warlord, thus only one model can gain the benefits of the warlord trait. p186 rulebook

Are there any other instances where there is a squad of characters in other codexes / indexes?

Another Edit:

It is actually possible just to have unit of 50 AM conscripts and then select one of the white shields as your warlord. I guess the actual commander took tactical replacement with the last shuttle off the planet.

Alright found a clarification,

DESIGNER'S COMMENTARY Updated 11/2017

Q: Some Character units can include non-Character models – the Genestealer Cults Patriarch and its Familiar ‘upgrade’, for example. Can such a unit be shot at even if it isn’t the closest visible enemy unit?

A: No. The restrictions on targeting Characters applies to a unit whilst any model in the unit has the Character keyword (and none have 10 or more wounds). For example, if a Patriarch takes a Familiar as an upgrade, the Patriarch is a Character, but the Familiar is not. Neither has 10 or more Wounds. Enemies can therefore only target the pair if they are the closest visible enemy models. If the Patriarch is slain and the Familiar is not, enemy units could then target the Familiar freely.

There's no reason to do this. With the 4 warlord traits SoB can take, there is never, ever a reason to make a Gemini the Warlord outside of giggles.
