Wassa
What is the best regiment for a heavy weapons team? I'm thinking Cadian as it's unlikely that they'll be moving, and so get to reroll hits of 1. They can also benefit from the Overlapping Fields of Fire Strategem. The only other decent one I can think of is Mordian with the Volley Fire strategem. I used to collect Catachans back in 3rd and so I have a several catachan heavy weapons teams (freestanding without bases). Catachans would be great if they benefitted from rerolling attacks like their vehicles do but unfortunately do not. Should I just sell these? Harrowmaster
Vostroyans add 6" range to heavy weapons plus they have a stratagem that grants +1 to hit Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346864-heavy-weapons-team-regiments/#findComment-5071243 Share on other sites
spafe
Don;t sell em, mix them up. As they are free standing, paint them the fatigue colour of your cadian force, then give them a cadian chap as a loader. Use the jungle fighter loaders either with cadian heavy weapon shooters or move them into inf squads that are still catachan. Or send them to me! I always have room for more metal heavy weapons! :-p Last one to consider could be tallarn for the option to move and shoot, but thats more specialist I guess Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346864-heavy-weapons-team-regiments/#findComment-5071245 Share on other sites
Harrowmaster
Tallarn doctrines don't apply to heavy weapons unfortunately. Edit: On infantry that is. Feral_80
Cadian. It's the only way to make them decent really. And they are still hardly any good, except for mortars and possibly heavy bolters. The reroll 1s/all trait and the stratagem offer unbeatable synergies. Vostroyans could be barely worth it as an alternative, but you'll want to spend that good stratagem on something a little more incisive than 3 heavy weapons. Lord Marshal
The Mordian doctrine is only for Overwatch, right? If your HWS' are getting into an Overwatch situation then something's already gone horribly wrong. Mortars and Lascannons already have good range so the Vostroyan bonus is largely redundant. Cadians are the clear winner I think. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346864-heavy-weapons-team-regiments/#findComment-5071273 Share on other sites
Captain_Krash
Just to throw a wrench Elysian's may have decent albeit limited heavy weapon selection due to being able to make them assault with one of there special orders. Nothing like moving and advancing heavy bolters/missle launchers/snipers with no -1 to hit. Just a thought. domsto
I play mine always as Cadia and let them re-roll all hit rolls thanks to doctrine+Order It works pretty well for with all the HWTs Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346864-heavy-weapons-team-regiments/#findComment-5071356 Share on other sites

If your HWS' are getting into an Overwatch situation then something's already gone horribly wrong. I was talking about the strategem Volley Fire. You can fire the weapon again if you get a hit roll of 6. Great for D6 weapons. But yeah, Cadian seem to be the best unbuffed. allegedlynerdy
If you're just running mortars, I personally think that catachan is pretty good, with rerolling D weapons. Gloomfoe
Valhallan mortars to shoot stuff off your tanks. Give your commander the relic which lets them potentially give another order to the same unit, now you can reroll ones and negate the bad stuff from the valhallan order Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/346864-heavy-weapons-team-regiments/#findComment-5074381 Share on other sites
