Fun / weird Lists

Hello brothers,

I have been working on some unusual list idea that I would like to share and discuss.

I also invite anyone to share their unusual idea about Deathguard (DG/ Nugle Daemon) armies.

First one is the T8 Tank list.

-The idea-

The initial inspiration came from a post about Land Raider in the DA sub-forum where they mentioned that if one Land Raider can be dealt with, 2 or 3 is another thing entirelly. And who better to take advantage of hard unit better than DeathGuard? The idea would be to present mostly/only T8 taget to the enemy with Land Raider's and Plague Burst Crawler. The list would waste a good portion of the enemy firepower in the early turns of the game whiles eliminating High value target at range. Each land raiders carries either plague marine or poxwalker as screening that can be deployed where needed. A single Daemon Prince with wings and the Helms provide counter charge and rerolls to the force.

-The list-

In this specific list, I have 2 Land Raider and 3 PBC. Land raiders are overcosted, but PBC are agressively pointed. The hope is that it evens out. I included a BlightSpawn in each LR, they are intended to provide heavy close range fire for the later turn of the game. I have a biologus with melee marine, but this is my personal Bias as I love the biologus abilities and I expect value in the Bligh Bombardment stratagem for this list. Finally, I Filled what point i had left with cultist.

I think it looks like fun and would be a real pain for some armies to deal with.

I think you're correct in pulling out Poxwalkers and thus Typhus in an army like this (heck I don't really care for Poxwalkers that much anymore). That opens up a lot of space, and I love the idea of CC Plaguemarines.

BT,

What an interesting idea.  Love it!  Really builds on the notion of DG being Tough and Resilient.

My thoughts:

My concern would a savy opponent who surrounds your LR with Chaff before blowing them up, thus killing everything inside.  You really don't have a lot besides the DP that can counter that.

Additionally, Despite being mostly vehicles, I would be worried about being outmaneuvered.  the LRs will need to move, thus reducing their BS.  The DP can't support both at the same time without them staying together.

Ok, I'm rambling....but I hope you get my meaning.  Bottom Line:  I would love to see this list in action, it could work really well.

Don’t LR ignore the move penalty?

However I very much share your concern, it feels like there’s very little on the board

Early in 8th, before the codex dropped and before the errata for FW hit, I ran a double defiler list with a decimator and hellwright on foot. It wasn't actually good, and my demon robots got smashed by bloodthirsters, but I still had a fun. I enjoyed Hellforged Death Guard while it lasted...

Yes, LR ignores the Heavy weapon penalty.

There is very little on the board, but thats kind of the point, presenting only T8 targets. Such a small footprint will require finess to play with. Clever placement of your unit and well timed disembarkment are a must to avoid being overwhelmed. I Would be more woried about geting all my tanks tagged, preventing them from shooting. A gnawmarl could help there, allowing the PBC to fall back and shoot.

Didn't realize LR ignore movement penalties.  Never used them in 8th, but it would make sense and at least helps explain their imense point costs.

@BT, I do think this is a playable list, but like you said it needs to be timed well.  Like with any list with low model counts, any mistake (loss) will hurt severely.

Be careful about the temptation of bringing too many additional things into the list, otherwise you loose the reason you created it, pure T8.  Yes a Gnarlmaw or Chaos Spawn would help cover your vehicles, but then the amount of T8 models would decrease and the list less unique.

On a seperate note:  I was reading through the Dark Eldar Form as I have no idea bout them really.  They seem to have a lot of poison weapons that negate/counter high toughness.  Does anyone else know more about them?  this sounds like it could be the Achilles heel of a list such as this.

The list was meant to be fun and unusual, not particularly competitive.

However, whils I feel the comparison is justified, it is also unfair. knight are more expensive and the only way they make up for it is by killing stuff. They also suffer a lot from the damage chart, you dont need to kill a knight, you only cripple him into uselessness.

LR in my list can certainly kill stuff, but they also protect. They do not suffer as much from the damage table. They have multiple way to make up for their points. A good player will know how to leverage these aspect depending on the oponent, where a knight only have one possible role in a list.

In the end, the list is not balanced at all, it will hard counter some and be hard countered by some oponent. But it look's fun to me and certainly is worth a discution :)
