Tactics question - Heroic intervention as a counter-charge?

Just a quick question re. heroic intervention and using it as a sort of counter-charge... I was thinking of a specific scenario using 2 small kill-teams in a corvus instead of one large kill-team.

Eg.

2 small Kill teams dropped off in close proximity (12" or so?) to their target

A - The "bait"... equipped to shoot / eat the charge (shotguns / frag cannon) - 5 vets + 1 vanguard vet (pistols)

B - The "count strike"... a more expensive squad including a blackshield and equipped with some shooting (bolters / pistols), but better melee options - 5 vets

Deploy squad B 3" behind squad A.... so If squad A is charged squad B is obligated to intervene but will strike with impunity (unless a charge was also declared against them?)... does that work? If they aren't successfully charged they can both move forward allowing squad A to charge first and eat the overwatch with squad B following afterwards?

Then again this might be crazy talk inspired by late night corvus assembly...

Kind of. It's more ideal to have the other squad on the left or right of the "bait squad," or maybe even mixed. If you leave them behind, they would have to their 3" forward and at least one unit would have to be within 1" of the enemy model. If your "bait" unit is blocking your 3" move, you can't make the intervention.

It's more situational then actual tactic from my experience. We often have too few kill teams in our list to run them together. I could see this happening if you load up 2 units in a blackstar and they get charged after disembarking. Maybe even put a VV in the squad with shotguns/frag cannon?
