Stripping Imperial Knights

Recommended Posts

Anyone have some advice on stripping paint from Imperial Knights? I've never stripped any models, and don't want to risk damage. I was recommended this process:

Soak in a 2:1 water: simple green mixture for 24 hours

Scrub with a toothbrush for majority of paint

Use a toothpick to get paint out of details.

You don't want to dilute the simple green unless you're trying to stretch the amount you have for budget reasons.

Also, if you live in the US of muthatruckin A - try and find this cleaner as it performs better than simple green:

It comes highly recommended by other people in this forum who have an infinitely more experience in this than myself.

ALSO: You put the image of a pole dancing Imperial Knight in my head and I can't get it out.

If it's an authentic GW plastic kit then no, this will not melt the plastic.

I've had three Centurions in a bath of Super Clean for a week now to peel off multiple owners many layers of paint, and the plasic underneath is just as it should be.

I actually left a dreadnought in the same stuff for a month when I forgot about it and it was fine.

One important thing to remember with Super Clean/Purple Power/other degreasers: WEAR GLOVES! I used it for two years without issue, but stripping a big lot of second-hand eBay models a few months back taught me the degreaser makes no distinction between engine grease, paint, or the oils in your skin. After a week of 'chemical burn' pain and dry, cracked skin later, every time I'm in a doctor's office, I make sure to stock up on surgical gloves.
