Necromunda gangers as cultists?

Recommended Posts

Hey Frater. I'm wanting to get what you all would think of using gangers as cultists. I picked up a box of Escher and Goliath and I'm wanting to convert them over to Slaaneshi cultists. I rather dislike the disheveled, disorganized look of the cultists and want them to look a little more cohesive as a fighting force. I'm thinking of adding cultist bits, dark eldar bits, sisters of slaughter bits and some greenstuff to make these guys look like they belong together.

Whaddya think?

I like the idea. I've been tempted to buy some Orlocks to bulk out my Tzeentch Cultists squads and equip them with some neat weaponry, since I can't seem to get my hands on the Dark Vengeance cultists anymore. Plus the current cultists models seem a bit less classy than Tzeentch Cultists should; I want the feeling of a bunch of brainwashed, well-dressed 1920's Cthulhu Mythos setting college students and professors rampaging through the galaxy in pursuit of forbidden knowledge, not a bunch of musclebound thugs more likely to burn a library than loot it.

The most expensive cultists ever to hit the tabletop. Imagine trying to field 100 of them. Ow the paychecks!

Oh trust me, I know. I have 40 Escher-based melee cultists for my Slaanesh forces. Only one of them was at full price, one was a gift from a friend, the other two were a 20% discount (I love my FLGS' supporter's club discount )

My only concern is the Goliaths. They are BIG. Like, "taller than a Space Marine" big.

Also Kite: My friend is using Orlocks as his cultists for his Tzeentch army, actually.

Is that really an issue though? I read their fluff and their roided out bodybuilders.

Emperor's Children Apothecary: Hey Goliath. I heard you like combat stims.

Goliath Ganger: I LIKE STIMS IN MY STIMS.

Apothecary: *chuckle* Let me tell you about our stims and while I'm at it, I've got a friend known as the Dark Prince that would just love to meet you.

That just reminded me, I was thinking of making an Inq28 character who was a former Goliath (could also be a Hired Gun for Necromunda?) who's based on Krieg from Borderlands

I wanna do Mr. Torgue.

It's less of a problem in 8th but my biggest concern with the Goliaths isn't the size but the weapon options on the kit (which is to say, not enough pistols and autogun equivalents for my WYSIWYG tastes).

I've thought about this. I'll have to get bits on eBay and Shapeways. I'm a stickler for  WYSIWYG too.

I totally gave up on WYSIWYG cultists when I realized that the 5-cultist boxes contained a bizarre mix of autoguns and pistol/melee cultists.

The main concern I have with Goliath cultists is base size; I assume they're substantially bigger than 25mm bases, so that you'd end up with a larger footprint for a cultist unit, which is a bit of an unfair advantage I think.

Goliaths are on 32mm bases, same as Space Marines

Ah, okay. I was wondering if they were on 40mm bases. Nonetheless, it'd still (unfortunately) potentially pose an advantage to use larger bases like that. I know we in the Thousand Sons board had a similar discussion over using Kairic Acolytes as cultists and one of the major comments was that their 32mm bases would provide an unfair advantage over the expected 25mm bases for cultists.

Would Goliaths be able to fit on a 25mm base or does their scale require the full π16² mm²?

I just checked actually. You CAN have Goliaths on the 25mm bases. The only issue is that they'd be like the Orks, with their feet dangling off the base due to most of them having very wide stances.
I know this isn't really what the thread is about, but I've been using old metal Necromunda dudes as Cultists for ages, mixed with guardsmen and official cultists, they look pretty cool all together. I think as long as you use a similar paint scheme you can pull off a mix of different gangers with your cultists no problem.

I intend on having them all under the same paint scheme. These aren't mere rabble doing the behest of the sons of Lorgar. These are my mortal disciples. They do so much more than rebel rouse. They cultivate and tend to the pursuits of vanity, pride, excess and perfection as a horticulturist tends to their garden. They are expendable, yes, but no more than my other playthings.

I'm using orlocks with gas mask and hooded skitarii heads. Fit the bill just perfectly. Might be a bit big next to Marines but they fit right in scale with my Death guard

I just bought some orlocks to do the same! As well as some genestealer cult neophytes. The necks are a bit big for the Orlocks as far as I've tested, and maybe the collors will have to be shaved down as well as the neck holes drilled out. Have you started assembly yet?

i Like the idea and have thought about it myself.

I don't like cultists on 32mm bases seems wrong when half my space marines are on 25mm bases still.

As for the weapon options and WYSIWYG. if they have a combat weapon they have a pistol in their pocket or something, if the have a 2 handed gun its a auto gun what ever it looks like.

Finished actually. I'll take a few pictures when I can. And yeah I pretty much had to remove the whole neck
