Dreadnought, what should I build?

I'll hijack the thread for some advice - Mainly painting here, but I'm going to pickup a kit to get Bjorn done plus a Forgeworld Venerable Dreadnought for a tribute to Brand. Originally I was thinking of kitting the Venerable out with Axe & Shield from the leftover parts of the Bjorn kit, however, I was also contemplating an Axe with range weapon build (Auto-cannon / Lascannon / Multi-Melta). Anyone have thoughts if I should go full Axe Shield, a hybrid mix or full forgeworld build?

try not to mix melee and shoot you on your dreads it is better to have one or the other. Out of the Forgeworld dreads athe best currently is the leviathan it is the hardest dread to kill even bjorn will struggle to kill it in one turn and hits on 2 and if fitted for full cc is a beast nearly better than bjorn due to its 4+ invulnerable save and a normal +2 save

 

 

I actually...completely disagree with this. Most of my dreads (Murderfang doesn't count since there's only one way to kit him out) are a mix of melee and shooting. It is actually the best way to do it because you give yourself more tactical flexibility. If the enemy rushes you with CC your dreads can take care of themselves. You also lend your fire to your own vehicles/shooting phase.

 

It has been my experience that if you go only shooting or only melee it leaves them inflexible and less capable of adjusting to the whims of how the battle goes.

Today my wife played my SW against me with my using my Emperor's Children war band. It was a very close game. I won in the end by a slim margin.

 

The most memorable moment was when my Demon Prince, fresh off killing a Razorback, was left exposed to Murderfang. I talked him up in earlier posts. Let me tell you what happened.

 

She killed my DP in one turn. He was my warlord and was pumped up with artifacts as well. Murderfang dealt all 15 wounds possible. After that MF went on to kill a squad of NM and a Rhino before I finally brought him down.

 

You get him on something and things die fast.
