Paradogmatic
I'm curious what folks opinion of a 'counts as' army of Deathwatch? I.e. marines modeled and painted in a non-canon scheme but still representing Deathwatch models on the table including correct wargear / weapons etc. Thematically I've been trying to work out how to represent a small fleet based chapter that is essentially descended from the Knights Errant rather than the Blackshields. I know I could do GK, but psychic smite squads is not really what I'm after - rather instead the feel of mixed background operators working together towards a goal ( much like the DW ). I'm sure some folks will hate the idea, but I don't plan on anything low effort -- replacing iconography with Sigilite Icons wherever I can etc. Thoughts? Some early WIP examples - I'm planning on changing the current Sigilite shoulders with something a little slicker I'm working on and putting them to the traditional right handed shoulder location so that's still to be changed. I'm fighting with the idea of putting them in a really slick silver paint job vs a typical chapter scheme as silver is too close to Grey Knights to me. Charlo
Your hobby, your choice my man! I think as long as you kept something like every left arm a single colour, and the rest is a limited pallet, maybe a splash in some other places would be fine. And even then it's just for official events that would be strict. librisrouge
I say that the line be drawn between conversion and proxy. A proxy army might be as blue as Maccrage’s finest, yet claim special privilege as first company or some such, to justify their deathwatch status. A special organization, converted with their own special markings and bits to set them aside from mere marines, would be very acceptable upon the tabletop, however. I've been trying to fit the head fiction of my Chapter/organization to something with official rules. Even my non-prime Marines will generally be DW killteam models, but modified to suit my theme. I'm pretty pedantic when it comes to WYSIWYG and my modeling so I'm confident I can do my own thing while still making it clear what each killteam member is etc. Anything less is not really my thing. Ahistorian
A great plan, and one that has resurrected one of my old never-completed notions! How did you get the chests so flat and clean after removing the aquilas please? N1SB
Thx for inviting different perspectives. I've been thinking about this and I think Codex: Deathwatch represents the half of the Primaris that were formed into new Chapters. They never learned the Chapter Tactics of previous Foundings, were just given lots of equipment, like Mark X armour and some Special Issue Ammo. Meanwhile, I really like that Teal colour. To use a Shape of Water reference...it's the colour for Men of the Future.
