Hannibal
Hi all, I play Daemons in friendly games only, so no tournaments advice needed. Right now I'm playing pure Nurgle Daemons, but the no shooty aspect of Nurgle Daemons starts to be boring. Therefore I like to get some ranged elements too. The options I see are: - include Tzeentch Daemons or Khorne Skullcannons. I tried Soulgrinders too, but their shooting is too unreliable. - include some Death Guard shooting. Either Plague Drones or Plagueburst Crawlers (or bith of course). If I read the rules well enough, the Drones would benefit from both, Poxbringers and Feculent Gnarlmaws, which might be a huge benefit. (Do they also get the reroll ones from Darmon Princes?) Going that route also means I'd stay within a strong theme. - include Chaos Space Marines shooty stuff most notably Oblitorators, Havocs and/or Predators. I highly like the look of those Predators and I already got some scratch built Obliterators. The Oblits would also benefit from some of my Nurgle Daemons buffs, while on the other hand the Predators would be my only vehicles what makes them the best target for all anti vehicle weapons my opponent might field. (Same for Deathguard vehicles). Fallen with some shooty equipment might also be nice. There is some conversion opportunity and I also like Cipher, though he normally doesn't fight alongside Daemons. Well, you can see there are so many options, I'm not sure what to do. I normally run lots of Plaguebearers supported by DP, Poxbringer, Spoilpox Scrivener and a bunch of Nurglings. We use to play 1000 points games on 48x48 boards (we do not have access to larger boards, therefore only 1k points). All that being said: what's your advice? I think what I 'm really missing is long ranged fire power. Thanks in advance. Soulhunter1995
Khorne Skullcannons are probably your best bet with their 3+ shooting, however for the amount of shots you can put out the soulgrinder is definitely worth looking at :) and if you have anything deep strike behind your lines then the soul grinder can confidently deal with it Either that or ally in some renegades for those cheap earthshakers and mortar teams :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347095-ranged-support-for-nurgle-daemons/#findComment-5077416 Share on other sites
N1SB
Thanks for organising your thoughts so well in your question. Makes it easier to answer. I'm playing Nurgle Daemons with Forgeworld's Renegades & Heretics allied support for Earthshaker Batteries (operated by Nurgling conversions). You can see my army here please: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/345699-n1sb-labs-patient-zero-different-complexions-of-nurgle/ +++ Regarding the options as you've outlined them, I agree: Obliterators from Codex: Chaos Space Marines are pretty good, especially since you already have made them! You know their mechanic; every turn, they roll for their weapon Strength, AP, Damage. What happened when I faced them is that my opponent would usually re-roll one of those 3 using Command Points, then rely on his Chaos Lord for re-rolls to Hit, etc. The result is it's one of those units that perform better than they seem on paper IMHO, thanks to re-rolling the guns' stats. Death Guard Plague Drones or Plagueburst Crawlers are both great. Another great ranged option for them is Helbrutes/Dreadnoughts because of their Legion Tactic Inexorable Advance, which lets them move and fire better, so you may want to consider them. You converted Obliterators, you might want to convert Helbrutes. +++ Now, of those options, there's an added issue/benefit. It's the HQ you'll need to go with their Codex. Death Guard Daemon Princes get some really good Relics and Warlord Traits, like the Suppurating Plate. That's a factor as you decide from which Codex to draw from, happy hunting, Frater.
