Raven Guard Contemptor

Hey Brothers!

Quick question for my shadowy friends. Is there any lore significance to the swirling design pattern on the FW Raven Guard Contemptor?

I think its a really cool and interesting design and was thinking of recruiting one into my Wolves army as it strikes me as something that I could modify to look more "fenrisian".

That said, it peaked my interest and would love any insight!

It's supposed to be a take off on Maori ta moko patterns, which go all the way back to pre-Corax times. Those designs and traditions end up exiled to the fringes of the Imperium when Corax takes command of his Legion, which makes those designs on the RG Contemptor sort of incongruous.

Awesome bitz conversion. Looking forward to putting my Kheres pattern version together. Only thing I'd look to see if green stuff could disappear those wings on the torso. After looking at the fur kilt I'm sure you ahve skills for it, if it can be done that is.

Interesting critique! I don’t mind the wings though as I think it’s still within the Imperial motif regardless of chapter. I have a venerable whose great axe has the imperial Aquila on it as well as other models. If nothing else I’ll maybe paint them a bit muted to frame the wolf skull a bit.

The model is a joy to paint in grey since it makes the tattoos very easy to paint, so you've lucked out there. The part that I had to do in black with white tattoos was a nightmare, I don't know how the RG guys manage. Great pose you have going there, I too opted for a "one gun forward" pose to show off that amazing resin Contemptor poseability.

The tattoos are either Deliverance prison-gang markings or cultural tattoos found on Terran recruits such as the Xeric tribes. Raven Guard had a lot of tattoos due to the entire legion either being mostly from Terra or Deliverance.
