Same Weapons, Different Targets?

So I know this is probably a stupid question--but it's come up in my store now and then.

 

If I have, for the sake or argument, one squad with all the same weapons, be it bolters, plasma incinerators, etc, can that same squad fire half its shots at one squad, and half at the other--or can only units with different weapons perform split fire?

Each model can choose a different target for each of its guns.

Note, though, that it is for each weapon.  So, for example, you wouldn't be able to shoot a combni-weapon at 2 different targets, as combi-weapons are one weapon with 2 profiles.

 

Incidentally, page 179 of the rules sets out the answer to the OP's question pretty clearly.
