Corvus Blackstar

how well does the corvus blackstar work for your army. I'm still forming a list, but the corvus is really the most expensive thing on my list. And I'm trying to see if it's even worth in in my list / pockets.

My 2k list is allied with an inquisitor and gaurd.

With guard I'm sitting with 2 tanks

1 battle cannon 1 tank commander with punisher gatling cannon. Lascannons and heavy bolters.

3 squads infantry. Commander, 4 crusaders & priest. 2 5 man scions.

With DW I'm sitting with watch master & librarian. 3 vet kill teams.

vet team

2 frags, 1 sarge, 2 bolters w shields

Vet team

1 heavy bolter, 1 sarge stalker and chainsword, stalker & chainsword, VV w bolter and pistol, 2 stalker and shields

Vet team

1 sarge, 1 black shield, 3 power axe and boltgun

1 razor back with Las cannons

I still have some points left and until battlescribe updates (cause I'm lazy) I can't give point values.

Just wanna know how efficient is the blackstar. Should I get rid of the blackstar and go for cheaper transports. (Would like to get crusaders priest inquisitor and possible acolytes down the field as well) viewpoints and opinions are appreciated.

With your list as is, the Corvus is a waste. A twin AC Razor can transport your 5 man KT squad for a similar effect. IMO, the Corvus is not worth it unless you are delivering a full KT with 4x frags to take advantage of the fact they can disembark and move into 8" range.

Would more or less agree with ^^, but you aren't forced to use a full KT to make it useful.  In your list here a corvus could get the lib, the watchmaster, and frag team, and the close combat team where they want to be.  Would need 2 razorbacks to do that w/ those, and the rhino couldn't take the characters.  IMHO a corvus is worth what you make of it, I have generally had success with them.  Though I usually have a clear picture when making my list of what the corvus and the team/characters inside are going to do.  Far as method of use T1 it should basically be moving to where the team is supposed to deploy, and after that its just bonus.  The corvus often acts as a bullet magnet too, soaking shots from other units in your army, so having additional vehicles, is quite nice.  If they target the corvus then its already done its job and the squad is where it wants to go.  If they target your other vehicles then the corvus has a good amount of firepower.

At the end, the question is quite subjective, as the vehicle (any vehicle for that matter) is worth what you make of it.  Hell I have seen lists where a LR actually felt worth while.  I do think your list here is able to utilize the corvus because of the character(s)  + 2 squads.  I think overall the corvus is solid though, its just a shame the corvus didn't get PotMS, if it did this would go from being subjective to a certain yes the corvus is worth it.

IMHO if you are unsure with transport decisions, you might want to take your list back to the basic components again and think about its over all construction, what each squad wants to do, what range they want to operate in, and what goals you have in mind for them.  Once you have a clear picture of that what transports you want should fall into place.  After that add the bells and whistle type units, that will support your army.  Transports should be considered in the core of your list, along with the core units they are for, not at the end, when you are trying to fit points.  Any game can be lost at list construction, but this holds especially true for DW, and you really need to have a clear vision for them.

I had an general idea. Codex came about. And it caused me to think of multiple options. Corvus is idea for the fact my inquisitor and acolytes can hop in as well but that would take away from others. But this is more of asking about one route. Then getting viewpoints on that. Cause hell I might want to add a transport to my AM yo get the crusaders priest inquisitor and acolytes down the field for close combat on troops or tie up heavy infantry. The situation I have is I haven't played a game of 8th yet. So this is really coming from playing chess in my head but I like researching and getting viewpoints before I throw money in. However getting off track I appreciate the comments. Seeing how well it does and getting viewpoints on it. I wanna invest in cheaper transports yo push them further down the field but if the corvus was worth it I could rearrange it.

The corvus currently is just a messy design. It wants to move to use the bombs it inherently pays for but also doesn’t want to move because it does not have potms and deals far more damage with its main weapons if it hovers. And the first turn it moves to deliver transported units it usually can’t use the bombs since flying over enemies lines runs a high risk of getting surrounded, making it impossible to disembark (loosing a round for transported units or even getting them destroyed).

I’m having a hard time finding a place for it in my lists, especially since just having one is just asking for it to get shot down before it can do anything meaningful. In your list, where it is the only big thing worth to focus fire and visible from all over the table, I would skip it.
