Watch Captain Loadouts

A jump was definitely good when you considered using the Angelic Beacon. It could still be good, escort a 2-3 blob squad of infantry up one side of the board. When close enough, you can use that 12" movement to jump over enemy models and go for the important targets. It also gives him the best flexibility to support multiple units.

 

Regular Captains are good as well, the big debate I'm seeing is MC bolters or stormbolters. The melee weapon is still personal preference, as well as adding storm shields. The bolters are quite the topic because there's a couple of relics to play with when you pair them with a Capt: one lets you have mortal wounds on 6's, and one adds 1D to the current gun profile.

 

Another thought, at least for me, is a termie Capt. I'm pretty sure I'm going to build up a melta/fist and storm bolter Termie Capt to experiment with.

Ya I literally just realized that when I starting building stuff in battlescribe. Good call. I don't think the xenophase is a deal breaker, so you could swing the storm bolter and another power weapon to make the banebolts relic work.

 

Probably one of the few good FAQs to be asked. That, and the infernum launcher... but save that for another thread :-P

Did they update battlescribe yet with deathwatch yet?

 

For mine I magnetized jumpack, but he is carrying a combi plasma bolter with relic blade, but there's a relic I did want to replace the blade for just cannot remember its details rn.

On wonky load out options, for the WC in Terminator armor:

1. He swaps his relic blade for a storm shield, not his storm bolter - so no shield + melee weapon combo.

 

2. Can take the power fist & melta gun, but not the fist without the gun (this does mean you can give him the melta-fist and a combi-melta and melta while you melta).

 

3. There's no two lightning claws option.

I suppose an addition to the question about swapping weapons, would be if you are allowed to swap you "new" chainsword for a relic blade.  I've currently got my Captain with a storm bolter and relic blade and it's now not clear to me if its allowed since going by the rules I would be swapping my chain sword and MC boltgun for a storm bolter and a "different" chainsword. Then I would make the swap to the relic blade.  Are there any rules or faqs that touch on this?

 

Also, at this point battlescribe is not completely updated yet.  The librarian in terminator armor seems to be at the old price.

There also doesn’t seem to be an option for the Primaris kill team so I’d say it’s not done yet.

 

Are you sure? I've been building lists with it all morning and the Intercessor squad (with all the kill team options) is available there.

There are a couple of good options floating about, captains either with combiweapons or relic bolt stormbolters will be popular, dropping in either in terminator armour or jump pack equipped. Deathwatch work best ranged and their hq should probably suit. I think melee choices are harder and I'm not convinced deathwatch do it that well - you can make a baby captain smash hammer if you want but I don't know how effective he'll be not being from the blood angel codex.

The head is the head from the watch master (I put a helmet on mine).

 

The combi-melta is indeed from the deathwatch terminator librarian kit.

 

The melta-fist is from the Overkill terminator. Although chopping off a chain-fist blade and putting a melta-head works great too.

I think there is a lot of merit in the combimelta/meltafist terminator captain, he can put some serious hurt on vehicles and large monsters.

 

A good all-rounder seems a jump pack, stormbolter, banebolts and a xenophase blade.

 

Another character or monster hunter could work with jump pack, thunder hammer with +1d warlord trait and an inferno pistol perhaps.

I took my Shadow Captain Korvydae model and gave it a heavy thunder hammer. He has a holstered pistol on his hip, so I can decide what pistol he has based on how many points I have to play with.

 

I'm using the HTH as a regular hammer. But it looks awesome.

Codex havers, I can't pick mine up til tomorrow, but is there any way to drop the bolt pistol from the Watch Captain? I'm one point over and really don't want to toss a Storm Shield to make budget. Battlescribe says I can't ditch it which seems silly.

I too noticed the Meltafist/other weapon combo, and it made me joyful.  Probably try my hand at converting one myself, but I like Fanatic Xenophobe's conversion quite a bit! :)

 

Also, Castellan of the Black Vault + TH is ridiculous.  I'm absolutely enamored with the idea of a S8 AP3 D4 Captain :D

That all sounds lovely. Going to modify this unbuilt Artemis I have to fill that all-rounder you mentioned.
