Tormak
Some very impressive work here - my hat is off to you all. Â But a basic question from a newbie here! What colour do you basecoat / undercoat? I have (in my limited experience!) used black, but had some problems in making the lighter colours (esp. white) show up well? (I have this nagging feeling that there is a blindingly obvious answer here) I have been tempted to undercoat in white for my new Thousand Sons army (a choice you can all take some credit for :cuss ), but is this a good move? Â Thanks in advance for any hints, as well as for the excellent examples here which give me something to aim at!
Exhumed
Hmm, i tried undercoating white but i hate having to fill in ALL the gaps for shading, so I stuck with- Â black undercoat paint bits to be blue a shade of grey then lay on 1-2 coats of blue golden/silver bits still left black, best undercoat for metallic paints. Â My sons are coming out ok, no pics as yet.
Dephyyar
I use white, I don't know if it's better than black (never used black) but I think it works well. The shadowing is done with some dilluted black ink, not much work.
dizbuster
frontierpediatry how did you do that colour scheme. Is it quick ??? I need to get a foot based 1500 point army ( and a defiler) made up. Quick is good !!! :D
Superfaab
Using white will make the blue come out more bright. Personally i like a very dark sceme and therefor use black, and a layer of inkt to get a very dark blue colour. Though the white paint from GW is quite good, and two layers often do the trick of covering an area. This in turn will help the yellow colour, which is ver difficult to get good on a dark colour. Angron Khornate
finally got some pics of my stuff so here we go!  Big Demon Prince  Mini Demon Prince  Aspiring champ  Random Grunt  An Entire Squad  Old, still to be repainted 'zerkers beating some DH's  I hope to have more stuff up soon, but for now, enjoy!!  Edit: Sorry about the shinyness on some of the models, these are gaming pieces and as such the shine isn't much of a problem it's only when ti comes to pictures that it presents itself as such. emrys
Hi first post here - hope you like my DG  23 marines + lord - rest of the army (5 marines 7 posessed and 2 dreads will be ready for pic taking in a couple of days).  The models have not been varnished and I would say are at 95% still need a little highlighting here and there and some touch ups.  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v67/emrys/Death%20Guard/P1010194.jpg   http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v67/emrys/Death%20Guard/P1010192.jpg  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v67/emrys/Death%20Guard/P1010187.jpg  http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v67/emrys/Death%20Guard/P1010190.jpg
Grandfather Nurgle
oh my god B) these r great models....how did u do these colors, emrys?
emrys
glad you like them - The armour is painted using camo green worked up to rotting flesh. Before the final highlight i give the entire model a VERY watered down black ink wash. Then i highlight with rotting flesh and finally add red and brown ink waskes were appropriate
