TURBULENCE
Even though their range has been relatively untouched, the LCTB barrage has got me thinking about my heresy thousand sons ideas again. And at first I was going to make a hasty FW order for a big batch of infantry upgrades. Then I thought, do I even need to? A whole lot of thoughts started. When I first got into the idea of the heresy, and the asthetic that set it apart from regular 40k, it wasn't anything FW did. Because that didn't exist. FW was still making baneblades and GW wasn't. It was the HH artbook, and the random things people put together based on it. Maybe I should go back to that spirit. So with that in mind I got to building. These are some very WIP Legion veterans. Just using whatever I could acquire easily. Should I stay down this road? Or go the FW route? Supe robot gangster #1
Keep it up I’d say! As a fellow XV legion player I think they’d look fantastic in the XV’s crimson scheme! I’m assuming most of the bits come from the thousand sons 40k kit? What are the resin bits? I’m assuming third party but I can’t quite make them out! Pearson73
I'd also say they look great! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347645-thousand-sons-modeling-advice-needed/#findComment-5091732 Share on other sites
Hyperion
It kinda depends what style you prefer. My mk4 TS veterans use regular mk4 backpacks, torsos, arms and weapons, rubric legs and shoulder pads, and FW helmets. The FW helmets in particular are based on the Visions artwork. Lord Commander Eidolon
I really like the route you've gone down - similar to my own thoughts; especially homage to the old Heresy art. I've been converting 40k Death Guard into Heresy era, this got me thinking about doing the same with Thousand Sons. My initial forary into the Sons stalled with me having issues with 'mini marines' - especially mkiv, so the bigger rubrics are now my only real choice. Although MK3 are better scaled. I've used the 40k rubric legs - some of the torsos in the kit are pretty fitting for 30k, but I've also used the FW torsos and the GW Chaos anvillus backpack. I'd originally planned to make all the vets using Archeon pattern helmets, but feel that will make the unit look too bland, so I'll use the resin heads. Just uploaded my WIP for you http://i64.tinypic.com/2ciehiw.jpg I'll be doing some for the next ETL vow I think, need a small force to go with Magnus!! I think you can probably make pretty nice vets and support marines. I need to ponder how to best do assault and regular tactical in the 'bigger scale! Bluedoo
I think you have many options from Citadel plastic to keep your project moving forward, and potentially new stuff in the future. Keeping an eye on deals for the previous FW stuff would be nice to add variety, but I think you're on to something with a cool looking unique force. Keep us updated. TURBULENCE
Resin bits are GW chaos iron Warrior bits actually. Add a nice amount of variety to the force. So I've come to the one thing I'll have to order unless I find someone with spares: volkites. My honor guard uses volkites. Though missing his gun, the first honor guard turned out just Grand. Pearson73
That honour guard looks excellent, the pose is great. Parts from the AoS Tzeentch cultist folk?
