Delta.Skies
Thinking about working on a kill team specialized in taking out tanks and multi wound enemies. I have points to spare. So I'm thinking... 5 Vets 1 Sarge w Combi Melta / xeno blade 2 Vets w Combi Melta / power Lance's 2 Vets w Combi Melta / Storm Shield 1 VV with 2 Plasma Pistols Statistic wise would it be better to just go stormbolters, I know there are a lot of points out into the kill team with the combis, but also puts a lot of damage. Or I could go stormbolters and allocate those points to something else? What do you guys think? shandwen
If facing vehicles the combi-meltas will be far superior to SIA, but I would suggest having one or two of the guys be "cheap" guys to take wounds. Specially with vengeance rounds on the bolter. Thought it would be better, so what do you think I should put on the stormshields Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347682-combis-or-stormbolters/#findComment-5092313 Share on other sites
Finkmilkana
The problem with combi Melta is that you won’t want to shoot both profiles pretty much ever (and if you don’t shoot both, a normal melts is obviously better). Instead of taking two combi Melta vets it’s better to take two melts vets and one stormbolter vet. Yes, two Melta + 1 SB cost a bit more (86 Vs 72, so 1.195 times as much). But they deal 1.333 times as much damage (so more damage per point) than shooting both combi profiles and have an additional ‚cheap‘ wound (which you want in the squad either way). Delta.Skies
Revised the List. Watch Sergeant Power Lance , Stormbolter Black Shield Chainsword, Stormbolter VV Bolt Pistol / Chain Sword 2 Vets Melta Gun / Power Lance 2 Vets Storm Shields / Storm Bolters Feels like im losing a bit of punch here, what would you guys suggest. leth
Problem I see is that you are trying to make each marine do everything rather than having them focus on one thing at a time. I only every give points costing CCW to the sgt and black shield. The rest get the free Chainsword. Honestly for anti tank, just due to range, you are probably better off with frag cannons. Meltas range 12 kills it considering at 13-24 the frag is always better, and at 12 it is pretty close with the frag having a slight edge against T8. I would do Sgt -Storm Bolter /xenophase(because it is cool) Black shield - Storm Bolter and power something VV- two chainswords 2x frag cannons 1x storm/shield 1x bike ccw Or something to that effect. VV is probably not necessary since you are buying some CC. However if you want to drop the VV yo Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347682-combis-or-stormbolters/#findComment-5094134 Share on other sites

You don't want the enemy to be able to silence this unit by driving a transport into them. leth
Sure, but I find that if they can get to my unit with a transport that I am worried about? I messed up. After overwatch and CC attacks? Most transports probably wont make it. Even more so if my clavis master is in range. Since i took out crusaders / priest / and taurox for transport to compensate for the points. I dont think I would have enough, and even then I would have to take out voxcasters and VV to even grab the 2 more frag cannons. Maybe one, but I would more than likely keep the VV in there specially if im able to throw a frag cannon in there somehow ( i actually have a cool idea of creating a wrist mounted frag gauntlet but we will see ) Also debating about taking out my stalker unit for a jet pack captain but i know I lose out on firepower for medium firepower and buffer. Havent done the math on it yet. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347682-combis-or-stormbolters/#findComment-5094395 Share on other sites
