Doghouse
One thing I have noticed is that there seem to be two schools when it comes to the right shoulder pad of the Deathwatch marines, silver or chapter colours. There doesn't seem to be a consistent rule of one or the other after looking at the artwork and models from way back so which do you prefer? Qui-Gon
I prefer silver trim, but that's me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347707-shoulder-trims/#findComment-5092816 Share on other sites
SwashBuccaneer
I've been doing silver and finishing it the same way I've been doing the left shoulder. Seems to unify better. Zogash
I prefer them in chapter colours. The models are already unified enough with their silver left arm and black armour, imho, so the full chapter shoulder pad makes each marine that tad more of an individual with character. Also, some chapter pads just don't look right without their appropriate trim colour, e.g. red for White Scars, green for Mentor Legion, etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347707-shoulder-trims/#findComment-5092992 Share on other sites
LordCommanderSamirus
I do some of both. If the Company designation is a colored trim for the chapter in question then they get either black or silver trim. If the Company designation is displayed in another manner normally than it will typically be chapter color for the trim. Kinstryfe
Mixing it up seems like it'd kind of add a bit of story to some brothers as well. Brother Gallant of the Emperor's Shins chapter wears a red trim around his chapter icon, to signify to status as a member of the IIIrd Company who is expected to return as soon as his training and duty with the Deathwatch is completed to better aid his Chapter. Brother Goofus, however, wears a silver trim because he was ordered to "assist the Deathwatch for as long as they need your service" in hopes that he would either learn to fall in line or at least learn some useful skills while his commanding officer got a break from him.
