Deathwatch FAQ is now up

It obviously depends on the opponent, but this is actually far better in most games. Rerolling 1 was almost useless when most things that actually shoot at the corvus only allow him to take a 6+ or even no save.

I think I'm coming around to your way of thinking lol! Against Tau, Dark Eldar, maaaaybe Tyranids this will me MASSIVE. Dark Eldar will hit Blackstars on 5s with ravagers and all their transports, while most Tau suits will only hit on a 6+ without markerlights. Sort of helpful vs Craftworlds and Tyranids, but that will just depend on list composition more than anything. Sadly the change is pretty much useless vs Guard, AdMech, Necrons.

Guess I was initially disappointed because re-rolling saves was guaranteed to come up regardless of your opponent. If you take the halo-launcher now and your opponent has no units with fly you just wasted five points.

You know what... you're right. All I have to do is think back on this weekend GT I was at... it's bloody everywhere.

Do you mean units with Fly?  Or something else?

Overall the FAQ covered some important bases, but it wasn't thorough enough to meet our FAQ thread's questions.  I feel like we'll need to "poke the bear" as it were to get a few more of these answered, though I'm happy about the few character fixes that were done.

Enemy Dedicated Transports immune to our Mission Tactics and Doctrine Stratagems is still not addressed. To arms, brothers!

It'll take less than 5 minutes of your time and it would be a huge QoL improvement if they change it. There's not enough DW players to sit this one out. If you can, throw in anecdotes of games you've played where this has come up. I've had three now where I was unable to use core army mechanics until turn two basically.

That and the Dominus Aegis relic were two questions I had that weren't answered by the FAQ. I'm surprised they didn't answer more questions.

Even if dragonfire bolts worked against Jormungandr, there was pretty much zero reason to ever use it.

Statistically, it's the same as Kraken rounds (but with shorter range), it's only ever going to be equal or worse than hellfire, and it's always going to be worse than vengeance unless you can't get the maximum benefit of -2 AP or you're just outside 9".

It's completely worthless unless something somehow made us hit on a 7+. Or am I missing something?

Not from what I can tell.  I did come away with "well Dragonfire Bolts are still crummy" as well.  It's a shame but given that our other 3 ammo options all have uses and we have a spiffy SIA Strategem, it could be expected one of those would come away suboptimal.

with the amount of flying stuff out there Blackstar's halo launcher its super mega good, virtually all good drukhari/eldar units fly

So do a lot of T'au units.

Indeed, I'm definitely reconsidering the Auspex Array as my first choice.  At first I thought "corner case" but it's definitely true that a vast majority of powerful units roll with Fly, especially if your opponents are the standard Tau Gunline/Eldar Flying Circus.
