My almost finished Hellhound.

Just need to decide whether I'm going to colour in and write on that scroll or not.

The sentinel didn't come out as sharp as the others because it's so small and knobbly that the stencils didn't stick to it very well, I may try cleaning it up or might just leave it as it is.

Couldn't decide whether to paint the barrel of the Executioner Plasma Gun in camo or not so I just went for it. May try adding some burn to it and seeing how it looks. Otherwise I'll give up and get out the leadbelcher!

That looks promising. Your work on the vehicles' camouflage patterns is commendable.

It’s literally just spraying it 4 times adding layers of stencils/tape between each one and then shading the recesses and finally dry brushing it all. A bit time consuming but I think it’s worth it to make the guard vehicles a bit more exciting to look at.

Don't undersell it - that's four runs of applying stencils and working, that you've been clever about it to reduce the work required is also good - something looking nice doesn't have to mean hours upon hours of skilled work after all :P Just more excuse to paint lots more tanks... right? ;)

Yeah my first Punisher I tried 5 or 6 layers which was way too much and it actually turned out too dark.

These are nice and bright, and actually less work to do.

Can anyone give me any advice on painting plasma? In particular the Executioner Plasma Cannon?

I'm going for a purple plasma theme. based it with Naggaroth Night, and layered on Xereus Purple on the ridges. Then drybrushed Screamer Pink onto it, then drybrushed a mix of Screamer Pink and White Scar to get it bright.

I tried it on a space Executioner Cannon and i think it looks good from a distance, but up close you can see it looks like the recesses are full of drybrushed paint, maybe I used too much?

It depends on how you want the plasma coils to look. I blend mine dark to light blue and that works quite nicely. If you've done some dry brushing then a wash could help level it out a bit so it's not quite so obvious? A purple wash could do that here?

I usually do a mid - heavy white drybrush then hit with a wash and do a ligjt feathering afterwards

Helps tone it down a bit

Also make sure your brush doesnt have too much paint on it when dry brushing otherwise that could be causing the large caked bits

Slottted the paint rack into the IKEA shelf and it fits perfectly :smile.:.

Eventually I'll get round to painting it so it blends in more.

But now with a tidy workstation (Manticore for scale) I can finally get back to working on my guardsmen painting backlog :smile.:

Yeah I got fed up with my desk being covered in paint pots, kitchen roll, brushes, bits boxes, etc. Bought a huge mat and was only able to use a tiny it of it with all the stuff on it. The last straw was when I decided to make my own scenery using plaster bandages and wall filler and it was covered in plaster dust so decided to clean it.

Doubt it will last long before it descends into chaos though!

Yeah it's pretty good. I followed this guys tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvA72UqzStA.

Essentially:

  1. Scrunch up newspaper into balls.
  2. Tape balls together to give rough a outline.
  3. Put plaster bandage in water then lay it over your newspaper shapes.
  4. Let it dry overnight.
  5. Use plaster repair/wall filler to put a small thin layer over the top filling in any holes.
  6. Tap it to get a stippling effect.
  7. Let it dry overnight.
  8. Paint / Shade / Drybrush as usual & decorate.

Group picture, trying 2 different colours:

Close up of rocky effect and a paint colour test, it seems to have soaked in more than I thought so I'll have to do another coat or two.

DIY sample paint pots are great for this and cheaper and bigger than the Games Workshop tiny pots!

Another unpainted one:

I haven't used the filler on this one so it's still a bit rough with the gaps and overlapping bandages (Manticore for scale)

I've only done the filling and I'm trying to determine what colour rock I want. I want to get a mat though to know which colour fits best.

I made these because I got bored up of the standard Industrial scenery people use and wanted some natural scenery.

Another reason was because I got fed up of the size of everyones scenery that' s clearly designed for a squad of 5 Space Marines. Just enough to fit them wholly within cover or high up on multistorey ruins, and anything larger would overflow and lose cover save and line of sight. Conveniently it wasn't big enough to hide vehicles or artillery behind so I'm making some big ones as well so solve that issue!

Thought I'd stop being lazy, and just spent the last 2 hours doing the recess shading of my Leman Russ Executioner:

I'll let it dry and pick up the drybrushing next time then it's onto the detail!

If anyone has any ideas about what to do about the exhausts/grates at the bottom let me know!
