Mortis dreadnought (2 twin lascannons)

I understand that las cannons are goo but that is 200 points alone in lascannons. Couldn't you fit another Mortis Dreadnought with twin autocannons in the list if you drop the lascannons?

[HS] Mortis Dreadnought - 135 (PL 8)
- Twin Autocannon x2

Yeah you should be able to take two of these bad boys instead of the one with twin lascannons. I know their only S7 but you have a good number of anti-tank units already. I wonder if the lascannons are actually needed. How did the quad lascannon mortis dread perform in the game?

Lascannons are 25 points each, so that is 100 points, not two hundred.

What are the rules with taking a FW Mortis(I am guessing they are FW)? I have a Venerable Dreadnought that I wanted to add a Missile Launcher to but for the life of me I cannot find a bits site that has any available. The only option is to buy a normal Dreadnought then possibly use the rest of that model(and a FW arm) to build a Mortis.

Then I thought why not just take an extra detachment and the new Helverins?

Yeah the new helverns really fill the anti tank gap for us, work even better than custodes IMO. Will have to see.

Yeah that's certainly a possibility. A Mortis Dread is 75 points with no weapons, you then have to take a pair of:

- Twin autocannons

- Twin lascannons

- Missile launchers

- Assault cannons

- Multi-meltas

- Heavy plasma cannons

There are some really good options, especially combined with the teleportarium strategem. The only issue is modelling the dread in the first place! I proxied using my Ven dread and I had a Forgeworld twin autocannon arm that I purchased years a go for my Dark Angels Ven dread but then never done anything with.

In the game it did ok. I parked it high up, in cover with good line of sight and pinged out 4 lascannons shots per turn hitting on 3+. It's a good option for me to use as 'Relic tax' as I have folded my hellblasters into a fortis kill team and taking land raiders each game is just unrealistic.

I'm looking really close at a Relic Contemptor with 2 C Beam cannons.

They look awful at first....until you look at their anti-horde potential.

Start at S6 d3 damage at 24", and add another 2S and d3 damage every additional 24" out. Meh.

BUT. If you kill a model with the initial shot that model's unit takes an additional 2d6 S6 0AP hits.

Consider the high probability of killing a Termagant or something at 50" away and you are hitting the rest with 2d6 autohitting shots. Now multiply that by 2.

I might take a Mortis then, buy the dreadnought kit and the FW Laz Cannon arm. I was going to buy the Missle Launcher but it went last chance to buy and sold out...

The problem with the Helverins is that you have to take either 1 or 3(Super Heavy Auxilary/Normal Detachment)? But that three damage per shot is nice. Is there a rule of only 3 detachments for a 2K game?

I think you're right with the twin Battalions but it really does force us to go minimal squads. I have been trying to make my list with everything I wanted to try out but I just can't get the points for the Mortis.

I really wanted the melee group as I liked the look of the models, the chaplain will drop in and summon them to him. Teleporting the Primaris and the librarian, possibly one of the frag cannon squads but then the Watch Master will be foot slogging it. Might be worth teleporting the frags behind the melee but I would have to change the Chaplain to a Captain. Also replace the Hellblasters with some Aggressors, such nice models.

So many options :S

You essentially cannot have more Relic units than non-Relic units of the same battlerole.

So to get one Relic Deredeo, you need a normal elite unit. For a Relic Leviathan, you need a normal heavy unit.

If you want 2 Relic Leviathans, you need two normal heavy units, etc.
