Evil Eye
So you may recall a while back I was in need of some insect wings for a Hive Tyrant coversion. The good news is, I found the solution via a broken garden ornament, and now the Hive Tyrant has wings. The bad news is that I'm a little stumped on what colours to use for the wings. My colour scheme is as follows: http://u.cubeupload.com/Squigsquasher/DSC01017.jpghttp://u.cubeupload.com/Squigsquasher/DSC01142.jpg So I'm thinking some shade of green would make sense, but I'm not sure on the specifics. The original pieces were a sort of sparkly pink colour, which whilst quite attractive did not look suitable for my scheme. I want them to look suitably insectile and magnificent without standing out too much. I'm going to be painting any "membraneous" wings a dark green with stark green highlights along the edges and plenty of clear coats, so I could always do that. I want to avoid them looking too "white" as I fear that might make them look very odd next to the more saturated colours of the rest of the army. Alternatively, I could use Molotow's Chrome and HEAVILY coat it with clear greens and yellows, though I'm worried it will still look a bit too shiny/artificial. The final idea I had was trying one of the Green Stuff World Chameleon paints (assuming I get them for my birthday), though which colour I'm not sure. Any other ideas? Magos Takatus
I was just about to suggest the Chameleon paints until I saw you'd already considered them. Paint set 2 is the one featuring mainly green tinted paints. Red Goblin might be a good choice since it shifts between red and green so it would suit your colour scheme perfectly. So far I've only tested them by hand-painting them over some ancient plague marines and a Spiritseer faceplate but I think it might fit the insectoid theme quite well. Arkhanist
I came to suggest red goblin also - I have a pot from Asset Drop, and the red/green iridescence would fit very well in your scheme for insect wings. I haven't found a specific use for it yet (in my Blood Angels) I may have to start an army just to use it! (not my pic) Also, for rocking old school goblin green base trim! I've used the Molotow Chrome, and the moment you cover it with any other wash or ink it pretty much looks like your just put it over a silver paint. What you could use if you want a really shimmery or chrome colour, which is kinda weird to get used to but bear with me, is a chrome nail powder. You mix it with a dab of medium (I use glazing), distilled water to thin as needed, and brush it over a black base and boom, instant coloured chrome. It sounds so weird, but it works if that's what you're after. I used this stuff off of Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B073CNSYFM?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title Edit: I should add that a black undercoat is just for the brightest colour. Other colors underneath can make a much more subtle shimmer effect. Slips
Ive found that using the gloss washes over the molotow liquid chrome pens helps keep its super mirror/chrome finish instead of it just becoming a standard silver. The GW gloss washes I will add, is what I used. Evil Eye
Re: Molotow, I was thinking of actual clear paints rather than washes. But I am leaning towards the Chameleon paints now; hopefully I'll have both boxsets coming in for my birthday. That Red Goblin looks especially nice. Thanks for all the advice anyway!
