BloodWolves
Anyone try and make an Imperial Knight army with Space Marines dubbed as Men at Arms? Ive read some lore stuff stating that this would be nearly unheard of and unlikely. I know that Tempestus Scions are alp the rage to be set up as that but well.. I have marines Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348055-space-marine-men-at-arms-for-imperial-knight-army/ Share on other sites
Panzer
I think it makes more sense to have a Knight fight side by side with a Marine army rather than some Marines fighting in a Knight army. ^^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348055-space-marine-men-at-arms-for-imperial-knight-army/#findComment-5102757 Share on other sites
Ahistorian
Skitarii Titanicus are often compared to Space Marines in one respect or another. If the aesthetics fit, go for it! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348055-space-marine-men-at-arms-for-imperial-knight-army/#findComment-5102763 Share on other sites
MARK0SIAN
Also, remember that Marines are fiercely proud and defensive of their independence. Marines would be very unlikely to submit their forces to the authority of someone outside the chapter.  When they have done so in the past it is usually to another Space Marine from another chapter or a truly exceptional individual like Yarrick.  Marines are often depicted as the ones in charge when more than one branch of the Imperium fight together and even if they’re not in charge, it is made very clear that they are allies of the person in charge and can withdraw their support at any time. On Shardenus, even a Titan detachment was under the orders of the Iron hands.  I definitely see Marines fighting with Knights as allies but to class them as men at arms of the knights houses would be bending the lore a bit too far :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348055-space-marine-men-at-arms-for-imperial-knight-army/#findComment-5102770 Share on other sites
Michaelum
Heretic chaplain. Im with Markdsian, for example on FW web they have the Secutarii that go with the titans, which is a upgrade pack for skitarii. Most likely that a chapter adopts a knight, the reverse is streching it quite far. Space marines may hear a knight that calls for backup if the have honor debt or similar tho. BloodWolves
I thought it would be too much of a Renegade Chapter to write about. But a Knight being adopted into a Fan Made Chapter would be ok though? I just am not sure how to write about how a Knight Pilot is chosen after the Pilot has passed as they arent like marines that live basically forever. Â Also side note: How would I field Robute in with a Knight? Who rakes the Lord of War slot? Sorry.. relatively new to the game Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348055-space-marine-men-at-arms-for-imperial-knight-army/#findComment-5102848 Share on other sites

BloodWolves
Oh its not for a competitive thing. A group around here is doing a big cheese game. Its just a silly campaign. MARK0SIAN
Oh its not for a competitive thing. A group around here is doing a big cheese game. Its just a silly campaign. At the moment you would be be better taking your Knights in a superheavy detachment so they can benefit from household traditions, then putting RG in a superheavy auxilliary detachment. You can’t put them both in the same detachment because they don’t share the right keywords. That’s two detachments though so just check whether the campaign has a limit on the number of detachments because if you want to bring marines too, that will be three detachments, which is probably ok but always best to check.  This is assuming you’re playing matched play with your group. If you’re playing a narrative or open campaign then things are a bit more flexible :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348055-space-marine-men-at-arms-for-imperial-knight-army/#findComment-5102989 Share on other sites
KhorneHunter57x
I just am not sure how to write about how a Knight Pilot is chosen after the Pilot has passed as they arent like marines that live basically forever. The Throne Mechanicum at the heart of each Knight suit contains the memories of those who have gone before, and among Knight Households, new pilots are hooked in to interface with the suit's machine spirit and the ghosts of previous pilots. Those who survive become Knights. Additionally, Sir Hekhtur's Canis Rex rescued its pilot by itself, and there are hints in the IK Codex that some of the Freeblades are empty suits. It is entirely possible for a Knight to fight on long after the mortal pilot passes away, as each Knight suit has a potent machine spirit and the thoughts of previous pilots contained within. There is an older piece of fluff about the Land Raider Rynn's Might fighting on without crew, so that sort of thing could be an option for you as well. BloodWolves
Thank you for the help! Its an open/ narrative campaign. To be honest.. Its a game to field whatever we want to just get it out of pur system I feel like. Its not so much about "who wins" more of.. "who survives". More of a true war scenario. But would Guilliman still be my Warlord after all that? Id be running only 2 knights though for the game? Â And that helps me out so much for writing my lore and characters for the Knight! The Templars of Ultramar thank you for your help! MARK0SIAN
RG can still be your warlord, you can choose any character for your warlord.  As it’s an open campaign, you can take the two knights no problem. If however, you were using detachments, the superheavy detachment has a minimum of 3 lords of war. justicarius6
When they have done so in the past it is usually to another Space Marine from another chapter or a truly exceptional individual like Yarrick. BloodWolves
Ok Im just wondering however.. why is it not good to run an imperial knight and RG with some marines as a 2000pt list? Please be nice.. Im just trying to learn here.. Race Bannon
Who says it's not a good idea? Â I mean, sure, there are likely "better" combos and other reasons to make a "competitive" list, but bump all that if you want to use Knight+RG+Marines. Â The only one stopping you from doing it is you ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348055-space-marine-men-at-arms-for-imperial-knight-army/#findComment-5103951 Share on other sites
BloodWolves
Well thank you for that! I guess alot of it comes down to luck of the dice too. Maybe I'll ask around here and see what people would think would be a good set up! Panzer
All we said was from a fluff point of view it makes not much sense to have Marines ranked below a Knight. They are equals and if anything it would be the other way around and the Marines taking over command of the Knight to tell him where to fight. Men-at-arms would be more something like Skitarii or Scions. Rules-wise it would just mean that your Warlord would be a Marine if you want to stay true to the fluff while still have Marines and Knights in the same army. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348055-space-marine-men-at-arms-for-imperial-knight-army/#findComment-5104195 Share on other sites
Ahistorian
If you want to use Space Marines as MAA, consider converting them like as below. Remember there's nothing wrong with using Space Marine rules and converted models to represent superior Skitarii types like the ones in books and older lore. bluntblade
I'd suggest Skitarii instead, with the House allied to a Forge World or colony: if you're going for really fluffy. Otherwise, the House and Chapter could have a pact which makes them close allies.
