Uverons ORKS WIP

Recommended Posts

Congrats, but now you will never actually be able to play with all these painted models!

Everything is coming along awesome. Glad to see interesting orks on here

Thanks! She is number 2, my first was the reason I got back into the hobby. I couldn't LARP as much and a quick game of 40k in an afternoon was a lot more workable. And painting is something you can do when sitting with a sleeping baby.

As such, I have also been making progress with my collections in the last few days. And today I thought I would updat with my Progress on the Stompa (Iam about to go back to rig for work, and its too big to take with me so this marks the end of 'phase 1')

On the main hull, I started with a big brush and some cheap grey paint and did a light dry brush.

I then followed that with a brown paint that I applied with a sponge.

Then came out my real brushes and started painting the base metal parts. this was a long job, this was after 6 hrs of work.

Then with another 4hrs, and then 2hrs with other paints I downed tools last night with the stopma at this stage.

With a thin coat of abaddon black I darkened the armour plates centers, trying to leave some weathering, and paint chips. I then added the yellows and Reds of some of the base details, and then started on the bronze and brass sections, though this still needs to be finished.

Finaly some better photos of the completed parts of the model I have done.

The Grot Crew, Iam currently hiting up bits sites and ebay like a hawk looking for deals on some additional crew to add as extra detailing.

And then the boss plate that had the same treatment as the main hull, but has finished the steps for the final weathering.

UPDATE TIME!

So this week I swapped 10 Chaos Space Maries models I had (Raptors and Warptalons) with one of my mates for all his unused ork boy spres He had no idea how many orks I could make from it, he just has all the boyz he will ever need and he expect I could get at least 25 from them. Well I went thought them and its an odd mix, missing legs more than I would like, but a trip to ebay has that solution, and then a new box of boys helped to round the collection of so I should when all is done have 55 orks.

25 with shootas, 25 with Slugger and Choppa, (4 of which have big shooters), and then a unit of 5 kit bashed tank-busters. Still waiting on the Ebay legs, but until that point I have these new chaps joining the collection.

You will also note, that most the heads are very similar. That is because I have decided I liked the helmeted look on Orks, and although they look very samy at the moment with paints and small alterations it will look uniformed but individual.

looking good mate . The middle slugga boy is my favorite .

Thanks, I do like him as well! Getting the art of posing boyz down took a bit of time but I got it right in places.

I like the gritty Goff look of this army.

Thanks! Gritty is kinda my painting style, and I am happy I have been able to pull it off for my Orks.. trying hard not to have a 'Comic' appearance.

Update!

I havent got much done in the last week and a bit, mostly just striping paint off old models and trying not to be overwhelmed with illness. But last night I started putting some modles together with the hope for a large set of priming this week!

First up, is a counts as 'Nob with WaaAGGHH Banner! and Kustom shooter'. Pondering adding some extra grots to the base, maybe if I can find some snotlings.

gallery_63905_14685_232108.jpg

Then I have my 'Mad' Scrap Prospector.. who will actual count as a Big Mek with a Kustom Force Field.. (The Ork, isnt sure what item in his bag of scrap does it, but the other Orks dont care as it works). Modeling wise I may change out the scrap in his hand, or at least clip it a bit to make it smaller to make it look better in one hand.

Then we have a Nob with Kustom Shooter.

And then a Tankbuster Boy from the old Metal kit.

+++ The Return +++

9th edition has me looking back at 40k again, inspired by the crusade rules I had a conversation about how to return to the hobby... Well iam returning to my orks.

So yesterday I sat down and started working out what my 50PL ork list would be at the start of my Crusade. When doing so I realised what I would love in that list is a Mek Gun, so I opened up my bitz box, and got looting, and built this thing...

gallery_63905_14685_238089.jpg

Now it's the right size as a Mek Gun, but as I was informed by a mate its also the right size for a Grot Tank, so eventually it may get its engine turned on and start racing around the battlefield.

I also have a plan to finaly build the Boss himself Morfang Skragga, and this is the plan.

I want an imposing ork to be the boss, I had been looking at the Ogor ranges for the longest time and had planned to build a conversion from the Blood Bowl Ogre model a nod to my first ever Warboss, but this year a new model was released and it looks to be perfect for a Big Boss. The Ogor Mawtribes Tyrant. So this is the model and the plan.

gallery_63905_14685_555094.png

Point 1: I will not use this bit, in its place I plan on building a orkish 'Servo arm' and boss pole Add some 40k Elements and Orkish symology

Point 2: Replace the head, now I have a spare Assault on Black Reach warboss head. I think with some green stuff it will fit and look OK. What I would prefere to do, and what Iam going to try and do is remove the Ogor head from inside the helmet with my hobby knives and try and then get the helmet to fit on a Ork head, trying to replicate the pose.

Point 3: Remove the Belly plate completly, rebuild a 'fat' Belly with greenstuff and ork plates from my bits box.

Point 4: Remove Hammer and add in a Kustom Shooter.

Point 5: Add some more orkish/40k bits but keep it kinda how it is for his 'Big Choppa' (I was pondering about removeing the head of the spear completely and adding some type of axe head, but I dont know what Axe head to use, had pondered using a Dreads Claw for type of chain weapon, but will see how it looks when building.

What are your thoughts?

I think the ogor tyrant is a great base for a warboss (the orruk warboss is a bit overrused at this point).

What are you planning on using as the base for the gun? I hope you are able to successfully save the helmet like youre proposing- a helmet on a warboss would certainly be unique, especially one as scrap iron looking as the one on the tyrant!

I think the proposed backpack instead of the tusks is a good call, curious to see what you come up with.

What about the head off the lord of contagions axe for the choppa if youre able to sourcr on cheaply?
