Markconz
Anyone delivering DC without jump packs via transport? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348141-transported-death-company/ Share on other sites
Karhedron
Nope. Death Company with Jump Packs make best use of "Forlorn Fury", "Upon Wings of Fire" and "Descent of Angels" and also synergise better with Lemartes (who is practically an auto-include if you are running DC). You can try putting them in a Transport (a Storm Raven could be fun) but overall I just think JPs are better. Plus 10 Jump Packs are less than half the points cost of a Rhino. Panzer
FLY is such a strong keyword, especially for us Blood Angels, I don't see any real reason to ever play them without Jump Packs. Ornithologist
I have a squad of 15 (used to be 2 10s), from previous editions. I will occasionally put them in a rhino/storm raven or something, but I haven't pulled them out from the box aside to paint them since the codex came out. Markconz
Cheers yes I was thinking of Stormraven rather than other transports, as it can take damage and dish it out, and drop a bunch of cheaper DC right in the enemy. Maybe a way to deliver DC with some protection that is shooty in its own right. Vulnerable to getting blown up in your DZ if you don't get first turn of course or having the DC blasted when their ship goes down. Sounds like people prefer JP's though. Brother Crimson
Black rhinos in the middle of the army with the red X marking just looks too nice to pass for narrative games. Same for stormraven. I’d try to build it for your friendly games. One cool thing you can do is a second detachement of flesh tearer in the raven with Seth and 2x5 dc + dreadnought. Lathspell
Aaaah, the good old 3rd edition days, when overcharged engine rhinos were the way to go, load your assault squads and dc inside, advance, unload and assault in the same turn. I still have my dc rhino painted like so. But, as of 8th edition, i think dc jumpack is a must. I tried stormraven transport in the first days, but found out that a stormraven loaded with a chaplain, a sanguinary priest, and 10 dc has a huge target painted, the stormraven seldom survived 2nd turn, not making even 1st most of the time. Haven't tried rhino transport yet, but not being able to use forlorn fury is somewhat a drawback. Arkhanist
About the only reason I think to use DC in a transport is if you're already taking the transport and it's otherwise empty; razorback for the asscans, stormraven for a dread and/or guns, etc and you want to add some anti-horde hangers-on. This is more relevant now due to the beta reserves rule - having to deploy at least half your power points on the table and only able to deep strike from turn 2 does put more constraints on what we deploy and where. That said, forlorn fury with JP is still likely the better use for deploying DC in quantity on the table, particularly if using them for clearing a drop zone. With transports generally though, you need other big targets to force choices on your opponent - if the only vehicle is a stormraven stuffed with DC, every anti-tank gun is going to be pointed in its direction. If you also have a contemptor champing at the bit, razorbacks toting troops, killshot predators or a knight etc, it makes it a harder choice as to what gets the turn 1 volley of las death. Lathspell
This thread brought me some memories of old, so i uploaded the images of the said rhino here: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348141-transported-death-company/#findComment-5106024 Share on other sites
Diagramdude
Highly worth noting that a jump pack unit that disembarks from a transport is "set up" on the battle field and thus is eligible for the Descent of Angels stratagem. 3" disembark + 12" move + 3D6 charge is a massive threat range!
