Valiant or Castellan?

This is part of the reason I'm going to be making a list using both when I can. See how that plays out. Only real issue will be durability since only one will have the 4++ warlord trait.

I think the Castellan really wants the First Knight trait to reroll 1s and make the most of that Plasma Decimator on Overcharge. So by extension Ion Bulwark would be free for the Valiant.

The Castellan is for smart people who crunch the numbers and play it safe.

The Valiant is for people who make the noises when they move their toys, and say things like ‘For the Emperor’ while rolling dice.

I would get a Valiant, and I would get a special big dice just for the harpoon.

Yes, this princeps gets it

A Castellan who is House Raven and uses their Strategem is a terrifying sight as well.

It is indeed but at 2CPs a pop, you will likely only play it once or twice (although it will be glorious while it lasts).

Indeed, but then again the ability to turn one point at 2-3 targets and say, "get this filth off my table!" is very nice! XD I put it in the same category as Full Tilt with a Gallant.

Are you implying that people who make the occasional noise when playing a game, and say the occasional silly thing when playing a game that fits into the lore are stupid? Because saying that the the Castellan is just for smart people makes it sound like you're putting down people who don't power game, or people who want to enjoy themselves. If someone where to make silly noises and say silly things all the time, yeah that's annoying, but come on man. Don't make yourself out to be some brilliant general. We're playing a game

Honestly I was more insulted by the implication that because i have a castellan i wouldn't make silly noises and that i wouldn't invoke the Emperor when i make my rolls.

Well actually if I'm perfectly honest I wasn't insulted at all, but perhaps ever so slightly miffed ;)

I think you completely missed the point.

Missed the point and the spear behind it boys.

Nah for real though, I bought and painted a Valiant just cause the harpoon fits the house blackwood big monster hunter theme.

I have yet to field it in a game, the point cost is a bit daunting.

Kind of wish the Harpoon had the Pistol keyword, so you could still use it in CC.

SJ

For all intents and purposes it does as you can just fall back and shoot with it. So the only time the pistol keyword would be useful is if you couldn't or didn't want to fallback.

Yeah, but is that really the same as the awesomeness of having your Valiant do a Beyblade impression?

Indeed. My point exactly.

But if it was classed as a pistol, then the knight would be unable to fire all the other weapons on the same shooting phase? Or am I misremembering and mixing things...?

A CC profile would be great though :)

As a pistol, you could target the unit you are CC with during the Shooting phase, instead of disengaging. And it’s thematic.

You are correct. If shooting a pistol, it's the only weapon type you can shoot in that phase.
