Ceranidian
So I've been thinking a bit about Contemptors lately. Cool models, pretty resilient, versatile load outs. Also, while expensive like everything FW they don't break the bank. Does anyone have experience using them in DW? What weapons? Mortis or relic? I'm thinking a Contemptor Mortis with 2x twin lascannons could serve as a pretty decent tank buster, which we desperately need. Add in a CML if you have the points to spare for maximum firepower. RogueApiary
I've been using a twin LC Mortis as my relic unlock for the Leviathan. It's certainly made for a more effective pair than a rapier QHB and Leviathan, even if the rapier is much cheaper. Moostick
Relic Contemptor with dual chainfists is the only correct answer to this question. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348343-contemptor-dreadnoughts/#findComment-5109500 Share on other sites
zero88
The Battlescribe entry for relic contemptors say that if they are armed with two CCWs they get to re roll all hit rolls of one.. it doesn't specify which phase. So in that case a relic with a pair of plasma blastguns teleporting in would be my choice :D ..it's like a baby Leviathan but no one uses them so it's actually cool to bring and you don't get the eyeroll when Deathwatch somehow "acquired" yet another Leviathan Dreadnought Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348343-contemptor-dreadnoughts/#findComment-5109526 Share on other sites
Zombs
Imo the contemptor mortis is amazing. Expecially in DW where you can deepstrike him and still hit on a 3+ rerolling 1s. Kisada
The contemptor I have isn't built yet but I have 2 twin autocannon and 2 kheres assault cannons ... think its worth it? With the autocannons its 166 points. At that point value it competes with an armiger helverin at 174 weaker autocannon (48" 7 -1 2d) but a consistent 8 shots vs 4d3 (60" 7 -1 3d) less movement 9" vs 14" less wounds 10 vs 12 better WS/BS 2 vs 3 (but helverin can move and shoot without penalty) better invuln save 5+ all the time vs 5+ to shooting better in close combat (higher str and invuln) benefits from DW mission tactics / knight can get house/freeblade bonuses unlocks a relic heavy slot hmmm it doesn't sound all that bad Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348343-contemptor-dreadnoughts/#findComment-5109706 Share on other sites
CCE1981
Ran 4x Contemptor Mortis Dreads, 2x with twin autocannons at a svelt 166 pts, and 2x twin lascannons, plus a Relic Leviathan. They are wonderful. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348343-contemptor-dreadnoughts/#findComment-5109858 Share on other sites
Ceranidian
What would you guys say are the advantages/disadvantages of autocannons vs lascannons? I tried to do some quick maths and it seems the 2x twin lascannon build always wins out against vehicles (T8 3+, T7 3+, T7 4+), even when accounting for the 40pts price difference (more dmg/point). My thinking is that it's the anti-tank firepower we as DW need, we got the other bases covered with SIA. I might be missing something though, still pretty new to the game. Zombs
Lascannons are waaaaay better vs vehicles, which is what we suffer the most. Imo autocannons are not necessary to our army Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348343-contemptor-dreadnoughts/#findComment-5110039 Share on other sites

Prot
I struggle with this decision myself. Without allies vehicles are a major issue. I still like the idea of deep striking a Contemptor with Multimelta. I haven’t done it yet with my DW but I do it with my Custodes and the need for anti vehicle is pretty big there too. seriade
What weapons do you use on the chainfists? Anyone have any experience using a C-beam as it should cover most of the anti tank issues and isnt too bad at clearing mass no save infantry?
