BloodWolves
Well just looking around on the net and I found an interesting article of a possiblity of Leman Russ returning as a Daemon Primarch.. will this mean that all the Space Wolves will become Chaos or maybe just a part? But in thinking of this, if a loyal primarch such as Leman Russ can fall to Chaos.. is it possible that a Chaos Legion may find a way to redeem themselves? Looking at the current Chaos armies.. Alpha Legion looks to be the only ones who could fit the critera.. Though personally.. Id love if the War Hounds came back.. but Khorne is just too awesome. PeteySödes
Well that khornate data sheet was a hoax. Any other mention of “daemon-ness” was just speculation that he’d have a wulfen form. I think any idea that Russ would full on turn traitor is pretty ludicrous and is really without merit. That said, I think Alpga legion super long gaming it and actually not having truly turned is interesting but I’m not as well versed in that fluff. Dark_Jober
Well... all that rumours about a khornate Russ are... rumours. In fact there was a datasheet for a Leman Russ worshiping Khorne but it is a fake, it seems the author confirmed that. In the other hand... I think we are used to see only the Imperial POV or the chaotic one, and not allowing the neutral or not extreme POV. I really love the lesser factions: -Sons of Malice. They follow Malal/Malice so they hate Chaos and Imperial Forces. -Knights of Blood (BA succersors). Marked as traitors they fight for the Imperium and die to the last man in Devastation of Baal protecting other BA sucessors chapters. So... well... I don't think old legions will return to the Imperium side, but renegade chapters could do it. MARK0SIAN
I think it’s very very unlikely that any of the original legions would return and redeem themselves but I’d say it it was perfectly plausible for a renegade chapter to do it. It would be more likely if they had gone the way of the soul drinkers and became renagades without actually turning to chaos or actively attacking the Imperium. Kinstryfe
I don't think that even a chapter could be "redeemed" in that they would be accepted after they'd fallen to Chaos*. At best, I think they could effectively be pro-Imperium renegades, but I can't imagine them having any positive contact with imperial institutions unless they pull a chapter wide identity change and, given how deeply a Chapter's identity is rooted in the Astartes, I can't see it being particularly successful. So I imagine they'd be almost space pirates, taking what they need and justifying it as for the betterment of the Imperium. Honestly even if only 2/3 of a chapter falls, the rest are likely to be called just to be safe. * Only possible exception I could see is if they pulled an Exorcists and didn't fall but were possessed whole cloth, and shrugged it off. The ensuing Invulnerability to possession would likely have them being officially culled but unofficially working for the Inquisition. Slan Drakkos
I think any idea that Russ would full on turn traitor is pretty ludicrous and is really without merit. http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/949/237/303.jpg *Fights Angron. *Let's him live and he ends up becoming a daemon prince. *Was on friendly terms with Lorgar. *Got into a fight with the most loyal legion of them all over his brother murdering his target before him. *Killed loyalist space marines and breaks the back of loyal primarch. *Burns down whole libraries full of info that could be put to use now. *Forced a primarch to turn traitor, doing Horus' work for him. *Helped form a second imperium while the first was still burning. *Didn't kill Horus when he had the chance. *Arrived too late to do anything. *Zerg rushed into the Eye of terror right behind the traitors. I'm sorry, but is there any real difference between Russ as a traitor and Russ as a loyalist? PeteySödes
So what? He’s guilty of being a loyal optimist? You fault him for following through on orders (tragic as it is) but then would at the same time criticize that he tried to help Horus back to the light rather than killing another brother? I’m not saying he’s squeaky clean, but really at no point has he ever remotely sided with chaos. Bad judgement? Maybe. Heretic traitor? Certainly not. I’m not saying he’s squeaky clean, but really at no point has he ever remotely sided with chaos. Bad judgement? Maybe. Heretic traitor? Certainly not. I just find it funny that he does all of this stuff and is still considered a staunch loyalist. No room for even questioning whether his loyalties are true. If Corax or Lion El did even half of that, people would be raising eyebrows. Hell, Johnson fought against an actual traitor primarch, captured him, punched through/distracted the traitors long enough for Sanguinius to get through, and burned whole traitor planets to the ground and people still question his loyalty. Also, as far as his fight with Horus goes, he should have realised that the moment Horus manipulated him into murdering a planet full of loyalists (in addition to the hundreds of thousands of worlds razed to the ground), he was too far gone. Finally, my post was more of a tongue in cheek reference to how Russ unknowingly helped the traitors more than some actual traitor primarchs did. Azekai
I find it funny that the OP begins by speculating about a redeemed traitor legion and the thread derails into talking about daemon primarch Russ I mean, I am as much a fan of heresy as the next Nurgle-worshipper, but c'mon. GW is never going to do it- overreacting wolf players would burn down Nottingham.Realistically, the only current heretic I could see as being vindicated might be Cypher and his followers, and even that is a long shot. frightnight
Russ isn't a traitor, he just makes some spectacularly bad decisions. Truly, he is his father's son. Kite Senet
I find it implausible that the Imperium would accept a former Chaos chapter. Even the Alpha Legion is too far gone, though the Imperium might temporarily accept the assistance of the least tainted of their number in an extreme situation. I think it's important to note that Russ would never *intentionally* fall to Chaos. But with the corruption evident in the Space Wolves geneseed, it's probable that Russ is himself physically corrupted---it would be sweet justice to see Russ return to the Imperium only to be seen as an abomination, to have his loyalty punished with precisely the sort of sentence he himself delivered. This would also leave SW players with much lorebuilding flexibility; some groups may accept Russ, and parlay with the wider Imperium to bridge the gap; others might refuse Russ and his apparent maleficarum, and hold only to the Allfather; and others still may willingly follow Russ into exile abandoning the Allfather, and become non-Chaos Renegade Space Marine chapters. ...but, all that is very unlikely. Most likely they'll just release a cool Russ miniature and he'll just proceed to doesn't afraid of anything.
