My blood angel friend came over so our daughters could have a play date and BBQ

After the kids were worn out and fed we had some time to play

2k points I told him to send me his list later

Blood Angel

His army is based on FNP bubbles and he gets amazing synergy from multiple characters to hit like a sledge hammer. His key assault unit is the sanguinary guard and he is learning all kinds of mobility tricks

Captain smash

Librarian

Death company captain with dual LC and no overwatch relic

Bike priest

Ancient with special banner

6 Inceptors with assault bolters

3 large units of scouts

Sanguinary guard

Veterans with SB/SS

2 rapier quad launchers

Devastators with PC

My army was an experiment to use some units I don't usually field and to field test my newly assembled rapier quad launchers

Chief Librarian Tigurius: 1) Veil of Time, 2) Might of Heroes, 6) Null Zone

We battled in a winter fantasy land . One day I hope to have terrain but for now I just have the FLG mats and my kids toys (surprisingly they make good sniper nests)

med_gallery_49686_6333_192993.jpg

We played ITC mission 6 and Front-line Assault deployment

We both choose Old Skool and Head hunter

I choose recon

He chooses king slayer

The paint pots are the objectives

I won the roll for deploying first

med_gallery_49686_6333_184456.jpg

My list has a ton of deep strike so i really get to control how/where I deploy on the board

3 assassins and 2 GHs on the hunt gave me a pretty good idea what he was doing.

As soon as he put his firebase behind the corner castle (top right in the picture his devastators are manning the parapets) I was able to measure his max range and start dropping my assault force.

I know the rapier quad launchers can fire without LOS but I also know they have a second firing mode that is pretty strong so I put them in the open with good firing lanes. I basically created my own fire base and my WL and WGBL are both within 6" of the rapiers and intercessors

med_gallery_49686_6333_276842.jpg

He fails to seize and then starts unveiling his tricks. He moves his scouts to form a line in front of me and then a stratagem for his death company character

I don't mind this and intend to sling shot off his forces to help my slow moving dreads

The WL and WGBL stay back for the gunline auras

I drop a culexus in my deployment area on the far right side behind cover and out of LOS to control the objective far away from the action

Njal and Tigurius have a psyker competition and every buff they have goes off

My right flank shield dread gets veil of time and might of heroes

Njal calls a mighty storm but the troops around him surge ahead and out of range

And then my best 1st round of shooting ever occurs

The Flame WG roll 11 wounds and kill all but 1 scout

My WL finishes the scout off with his bolters to kill the scout and earn first blood (a rarity for me)

My WG Bikers roll 13 wounds on the other scouts but only kill 4

One rapier now has a clear shot at the DW Captain and land 2 wounds on him. He is forced to use a CP and takes 3 wounds

med_gallery_49686_6333_46808.jpg

Assault phase i get everything in just fine

His DW Captain makes a ton of saves but finally goes down to the bikers

The dread on the left flank makes short work of the remaining scouts

med_gallery_49686_6333_257434.jpg

I consolidate towards his next grouping of troops and placement here is key. I use the bikes and Flame WG to block off the dreads as best I can

med_gallery_49686_6333_9377.jpg

On his turn he is happy with how the first round went. The scouts i killed were basically his chaff. He surprises me by bringing in his hammer unit the sanguinary guard. I have mistakenly charged so far forward he can drop them in his deployment zone and still come after me

Njal denies everything he tries to do in his psychic phase

med_gallery_49686_6333_324802.jpg

His fire base is ineffective and the rapiers only kill a single intercessor

His inceptors on the other hand absolutely wax my WG-Bikers and put 9 wounds on them

The rest of his fire reduces my Flame-WG to a single model

2 dreads and a Flame WG brace for his assault phase

med_gallery_49686_6333_294265.jpg

*Pic was taken before he remembered to move his librarian (guy with banner). He ends up in the gap top left of my surrounded shield dread

I get lucky and he rolls a miserable 9 with the 3D6 stratagem for his sanguinary guard. They can't even get close to the shield dread for combat.

He starts the fighting with captain smash and shows off how all his combos work. Captain Smash basically needs rerolling 2s to wound my T8 dread. However, I makes all of the invulnerable saves and escape his killer unit

I then get to act thanks to veil of time

I put 2 dice on the librarian and 4 on the biker

I need to use a CP reroll but wipe out both of them

The biker was the key to his assault plan. It granted him S+1 or something. The rest of his attacks have all been nerfed and he struggles to do more than wipe out the Flame-WG. In a bit of humor his basic SB/SS veterans put 2 wounds through on the shield dread

Turn 1 ends and I am way ahead in points 8-2 and I have broken his combo by killing a key unit

med_gallery_49686_6333_314823.jpg

On my turn I send the WGBL and WL racing forward to fight

The psykers advance to get ideal range for their spells

Tigurius rolls double 6 to smite the veterans and a 6 on his D3 peril damage. He then rolls another 6 for smite wounds. The warp was bursting with power during his turn. Unfortunately for me 4 FNP saves were also made and in the end I ended up taking more than I dished out.

Njal smites 1 more and then puts tempest wrath on the inceptors just in case

My rapier quad launchers take out 3 inceptors and Njal kills all but 1 of the SB/SS veterans blocking my path

The dreads have to tag team but they wipe out his special ancient with the FNP banner removing another key from his combo auras

My WGBL and WL then start to tear through his Sanguinary Guard and he surrenders at that point

We were running short on time anyway as the girls were about done with their play date

We knew in a real match the winner of this furball would probably control the game so I didn't bother with my reserve forces (I have 3 assassins and 2 GH units with 5 plasma shots each ready to come in still)

Not a bad 40K game after a BBQ

Had a fun game with my BA buddy and got to see the rapier quad launchers in action

Very resourceful table, I love it. Looks like a full on warp storm occurring there. Which fits the current setting.

Well done on the victory.

Your combi flamers did well there. What’s your normal plan with them? Ive built a combi flamer terminator squad to deal with Rubrics but the rules changes gives them a 2+ re-roll against that now so they need a new role.

In this particular game against a SM force they aren't as effective fighting power armor

But in my limited usage so far  they are chaff clearing objective stealing all stars

They have a combination of mobility (jump and advance can still flame) and durability (power armor and SS) to make them annoying to my opponent

I usually send them after the small objective sitting specialists

The flamers auto hit and let me go after tricky units who have defensive buffs (including culexus)

If they have no need they also serve as a screening force and deter charges.  In this game they kept the enemy off my dreadnought and were a key factor in winning that massive combat

Remember you can fire both the bolter and flamer in 8th edition

LOL, a winter wonderland indeed. Kinda disgusted you brought assassins and Tigurius along though, but that's just me.

Tigurius was me just screwing around with another psyker don't get to mad about that.

However I do love using the assassins.  My background lore is an extremely effective deathwatch member who became particularly good at hunting psykers with his allies.

He has returned to the Aett for the wolftime and his allies came with him.

Hunting psykers with imperial allies worked for us on Prospero I figure we should continue the practice

I like the Deathwatch background. I have considered making a Space Wolf Deathwatch Captain myself.

If anyone should be allowed to take Tigurius it should be TiguriusX!

med_gallery_49686_13890_108829.jpg

The fluff background I have came as a result of ebay bits shopping. I was looking for cool storm shields and found right/left handed versions of this deathwatch shield.

I love that giant style it fits my mind of how you get a 3++

It eventually led me to pick up the breacher/boarding style shield from shapeways

My Tigurius Space Wolf fluff will be written fully when I am doing painting a few more of the models in my force (I'm about 50% done I think)

But if you know the Office Space Michael Bolton joke I will be going with that

My Tigurius had the name first and has been busy in the deathwatch.

It was a perfectly fine name until that OTHER no talent hack psyker became famous and starting winning glory for the ultramarines

But in real life the UM name Tigurius just resonated with me since I was a teenager learning about WH40k. I didn't even know or care that he was an ultramarine I just love that name and use it everywhere. Now that I am spending more time with 40k hobbyists they always ask me why I named myself after a smurf
