Anyone ever used this paper for homemade decals?

Recommended Posts

Never used it, but first thing I'm gonna point out: that's £17 for an 8-pack, or over £2 per sheet/$3 US. I've never paid more than $1/£0.76 per sheet of blank decal paper, and have had excellent results. Search eBay.

Any commonly available inkjet printer will work for decals. The important thing is to make sure your seal the page after printing, otherwise the ink will run when you try to apply it. Get a rattle can of clear gloss paint, spray a light coat on the sheet, let it sit until well dry, then spray it again. Once it's fully dry, it should go on your model with no problems. (Caveat: I only use laser printers, so this bit of advice is from research, not direct knowledge. See my sig for more info on printing decals.)

I havent used that specific paper but i can vouch for home made inkjet decals. My printer is the worst of the worst and I still was able to make stuff im happy with. Mine can be a bit thicker than I i expected but I just do an extra pass of microsol and really try to press the edges down.

Well to be fair that £17 a pack is still cheaper than the quote I got from Wessex transfers. They want £40 per sheet not including postage!!

I really don’t want to have to spray decals after they’ve been printed so thought this paper might be worth a shot.

If you check the Q&As on that product, the folks who are saying you don't need to seal it are not using the decals on models, but on canvas, where ink bleed will not be noticeable or unwelcome. Those who are using them on ceramics (probably closest to plastic models in application) are recommending you seal the sheet after printing.

Honestly, a couple of quick mistings with gloss varnish, 15 minutes apart, and sealing a decal sheet is done. It's easier than priming a miniature.
