Fan Made Black Templars 8th Edition Codex

It's a cool idea but I think it might fit an Inquisition discovers wulfen or black rage flesh tearers storyline a bit more snug.  I'm pretty sure Guilliman doesn't even like his codex anymore as of the current timeline.

While I'm not exactly all about using fan codecies or crazy wish-listing.  Please bring back the Orb of Antioch

I reckon you could actually fit everything you really need comfortably into a one-page document that you could conceivably include in a Chapter Approved. Start with a reference to the Chapter Tactics paragraph in Codex Astartes. Say that this article replaces the Black Templars’ Righteous Zeal Chapter Tactic and that for the purposes of this article a Black Templars unit is any unit that satisfies the requirements to have the Black Templars: Righteous Zeal Chapter Tactic.

Then have the following:

All Black Templars units have the following three rules:

Righteous Zeal - reroll charges

Adamantium Will - 6+++ against Mortal Wounds in the psychic phase, +1 for units within 6” of a Black Templars Chaplain

Vows - At the start of the game, if the army contains an Emperor’s Champion, you may choose one of the following Vows. The chosen Vow affects all Black Templars units for the duration of the game.

Uphold the Honour of the Emperor: units cannot benefit from cover, but gain a 6+++.

Abhor the Witch, Destroy the Witch: +1 to Adamantium Will, but must always shoot and declare a charge against enemy Psykers where permitted to do so

Accept Any Challenge, No Matter the Odds: +1 to hit in Close Combat, but must always declare a charge where permitted to do so and cannot voluntarily Fall Back from combat

Suffer Not the Unclean to Live: +1 to Wound in Close Combat, but never count as having charged for the purposes of determining the order of activation in Close Combat

Stratagems - Black Templars units have access to two additional Stratagems, Oath of the Moment and Faith Inviolate

Oath of the Moment 1CP - one unit gains an additional Vow for one turn

Faith Inviolate 1CP - one unit gains +1 to its Adamantium Will save

Additionally, Black Templars Lieutenants replace their Tactical Precision rule with the following:

Castellan - you can reroll failed To Wound rolls in the Fight Phase for all Black Templars units that are within 6” of a Black Templars Lieutenant.

Finally, any Black Templars model that can choose from the Special Weapons List may choose a Power Sword/Axe/Maul instead, and any Black Templars model that can choose from the Heavy Weapons List may choose a Power Fist or Heavy Flamer instead, however it may not take a Lascannon or Plasma Cannon from that list.

Throw in a quick introduction and a pretty picture and you’ve got a one-page Chapter-Approved style article. Combined with unit selection you could actually play a fluffy Black Templars army!

Also worth mentioning, if you wanted to actually try and do something official with this, keep it to one page and try submitting it for inclusion as a White Dwarf article. Back in the day you might have gotten lucky, so you never know!

Uphold the honour of the emperor would be the worst rule^^ Think about - you need -3AP to get 6+ but in cover you need -4 AP to get the same result to use 6++

It should be 6+++ (fnp) or every unit can shoot before they die. Or (i think it would be too hard) -1 to wound for the enemy.

Castellan should be buff range weapons too...  Templar ARE a shooty army - but not in range weapons but in short distance. Melta, flamer are very templar-like.

Take another look - I have suggested a 6+++ FNP since as you say, a 6++ invulnerable is borderline useless on a 3+ save model.

The reason for the Castellan moving from a Captain-style reroll all 1s to a Chaplain-style reroll all in combat has a practical component - Close Combat Space Marines are simply not dangerous. Being able to reroll all Wounds in Combat gives them some teeth. The army still has a strong shooting side.

I think the Castellan might be better as being a CC-buff char.

Like Chaos have their aquivalent.

Yeah that’s where I got it from. What I’ve suggested for the Castellan is a straight copy-paste of the Chaos equivalent (Exalted Champion).
