WickedApp
Hello Ravens, In 8th edition what is the correct base for Kayvaan Shrike? The model came with a 25mm base. I think the the correct base is 32mm. Am I right? Could I glue the 25mm base on top of a 32mm base and call it good, or will this make the modal illegal for tournament use? Thank you for the response. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348609-proper-base-size-for-kayvaan-shrike/ Share on other sites
duz_
32mm would be the appropriate size now You could glue it on top of a 32 and make a nice scenic one or even use the GW ones. Alternatively there are adapter rings online that can convert them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348609-proper-base-size-for-kayvaan-shrike/#findComment-5116079 Share on other sites
mertbl
Power armored marines are on 32mm bases now. However my shrike came on a 25mm slotted base, so that's legal. I put him on a 32 because it looks better. thewarriorhunter
When I finally get around to converting mine I'm going to put him on a 32. I've toyed with the idea of a 40mm simply because he's a chapter master but I think he would look too small on that base. Race Bannon
Ya 32 is where I went. More stable and looks better IMO. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348609-proper-base-size-for-kayvaan-shrike/#findComment-5116354 Share on other sites
WickedApp
Thank you all for your help. I mistakenly glued a 25mm on top of a 40mm. He doesnt look too small for that base when next to Primaris Marines. I will be putting him on the correct 32mm sometime soon, I do not think I will be fielding him because of the point cost. I think it's funny you say that because I think he's worth the points because of he reroll aura. Rerolling hits and wounds has been really clutch with me. I hate the thematics of it, but sitting him in your back lines with your gun line produces some amazing shooting. Remember he gives rerolls to ALL RG units, not just infantry/dreads. Flyers and tanks get the benefit as well. I gave a Captain that stratagem, and it worked extreamly well with Aggressors and crew. my ships were too busy flying around (2 Interceptors) never got the bonus. I worry that the 3 cps is not equal to 150pts for a guy to just squat. 150pt is a Captain + Lieutenant with some limited stuff. Having both in gun line gives a bit more rerolls. And that's why I love this forum. I don't play enough to mathhammer/list build all the time but I hadn't considered two HQs for his points. That hits the 2 HQ requirement but would then give room for another squad... something to think about as I look at my KanBan board and know I've got some more scouts and primaris squads on the way... duz_
My kanban board says I've got too many models in queue ... so ignore it! Meanwhile at work I tell people off for stockpiling too many supplies... :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348609-proper-base-size-for-kayvaan-shrike/#findComment-5116578 Share on other sites
mertbl
Shrikes reroll hits and charges aura is awesome! He has some obvious short comings(2+ artificer armor please) and I think hes short an attack vs other named chapter masters(paired claws should give him an extra attack for 6 total) If you can get him "Might of Heroes" he turns into an absolute blender. Would "might of Heros" be better served on Aggressors? 3 aggressors +1 S=5, +1T=6, +1 A/ Aggressor = 10 attacks with powerfists @S10 -3 Ap D d3. Aggressors pt cost is 129. Shrike w/ "might" S5 T5 A6 Talon's S5 -3Ap D d3 reroll fails I do not mean to Troll my own Thread, but Im not sold on him being the best bang for the Pt cost. I have not field tested him yet. Mainly due to the pt cost. I bought a squad of VV to pair with him but the equip cost of the squad with the 1 wound turned me off (150 shrike + 180 pt VV = 320). big pt investment with the possibility of them being Turn 1 boarded. duz_
I've played him pretty much every time I've run my RG this edition. My experience: Is he competitive? Unfortunately no Is he fun? Yes :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348609-proper-base-size-for-kayvaan-shrike/#findComment-5117231 Share on other sites

Yes Those are my thoughts. I wish he wasn't so squishy though... But next game I have I think I'm going to try the captain/LT combo next time though and see what I can do with the extra points that frees up from not needing another HQ. Dracos
Yep. Might is best on a Dread in my opinion. Shrike makes a nice support unit for Inceptors ... which should be ran in 5s. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348609-proper-base-size-for-kayvaan-shrike/#findComment-5117874 Share on other sites
WickedApp
yep your correct, "might" works on a model, not a unit. Glad I did not try it during a game. it still works well on 1 Aggressor though.
