General Strike
I am planning a few small projects, one of them being a humans in power armor army using SoB rules. I want to mix male and females, and was planning to start with Scions for a base. What would you guys recommend to continue from their? I was considering Mk3 power packs as kind of big clunky power packs for the less advanced human armor. Ahistorian
I tend to use Astartes armour but change the power packs to avoid the classic Space Marine silhouette - Ad Mech, the backs of Rhino lamps &c. I've also (of course) used Sisters of Silence and Greyfax. I'm also experimenting with Scout torsos & Astartes limbs, and Astartes legs with Cadian hazard head/chests and Scion arms. Aramis K
Maybe Van Saars for power armoured humans instead of Scions as a base - it's a full suit unlike the Scion carapace. Then maybe a Scion backpack and a skitarii vanguard helmet. Shinespider
I think the most important part is building up the bulk of the model while avoiding things that shout "Space Marine!" The specific forms of power armor worn by Space Marines are not shared among the rest of the Imperium. (And can't be, because normal people aren't 7'5" tall and don't have the Black Carapace.) The backpack, helmet and the rounded shoulder pads are at the top of the list for things that look too astartes - I'd avoid all three at any cost. +Chaplain Matthias+
For my power armored inquisitors, I use Space Marine arms but without the shoulder pad. I paint the inquisitorial =][= right on to where the shoulder pad would be glued. I'll see if I can find an example. EDIT: Here's an example from pinterest Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348621-human-power-armor-conversions/#findComment-5116474 Share on other sites
+Chaplain Matthias+
Oh here's another one I liked on Pinterest. I think this guy eventually did get shoulder pads because I saw another picture with them glued on. But I kinda like him like this. It looks like bulky power armor, and he'll be primaris-tall because of the legs he used, but he doesn't have bulky iconic Astartes shoulder pads. This could be a human inquisitor in terminator armor, in my opinion. StraightSilver
Yeah that one works and is actually really lovely - reminds me of a bulked up Coteaz. General Strike
Okay, so my thoughts are: Battle Sisters: Cadian legs and torso, scion backpack, various heads, marine arms and weapons. I like the van saar idea, but the arms are set for certain weapons and the SM arms seem like they would be massive on a Van Saar body. Not sure what to use for jump packs. I suppose instead of jump packs I could do the teleporter antenna things like Grey Knight Interceptors have. DBadger
I thought I would try a few ideas (actually to see if I can pass them off as Neophytes because I HATE scouts). I'll let you know when they're painted up a bit. The issue with power armour arms on guard torsos is that Cadian torsos are tiny. I found one pair of Astartes arms that fits, the rest I had to cut down and they don't look great. Also the Cadian torso doesn't look much like power armour. Perhaps SM Scout torsos would be better as smaller versions of power armour. I'm trying Kasirkin backpacks. I like this because I wanted to do it for my fluff deathwatch termies. Slan Drakkos
found these the other day while surfing the net. General Strike
They are really cool, but I have to stick to GW bits to play at my GW. If the arms are too big, maybe I will have to cut the actual bolters themselves. Ahistorian
Now I'm on my laptop, here are a few examples of my own conversions. Bear in mind that all my Marines are Primaris or True-Scaled. Rogue Trader. Space Marine limbs, Scout torso Inquisatrix. Literally just Sisters of Silence body with head and weapon swap Radical Inquisitor. Dark Vengeance Chaos Lord with head, hand and power plant swaps Inquisatrix. Space Marine and Chaos Space Marine bits, alternate power plant (back of a Rhino lamp) Inquisitor. Mix of GK, Deathwatch, Space Marine parts. Ended up with an Ad Mech Skitarii backpack I think Scion torsos on Space Marine legs could look cool, but unarmoured legs will make the mini look like they are wearing powered carapace armour instead of power armour. General Strike
I worry about using marine legs cause of scale, besides SoB power armor has like leather for the arms and legs lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348621-human-power-armor-conversions/#findComment-5119708 Share on other sites
Ahistorian
I worry about using marine legs cause of scale, besides SoB power armor has like leather for the arms and legs lol The legs are about the same as Cadians - thicker of course, with the armour. Sisters of Battle have robes, sure - but so do Dark Angels. General Strike
I meant the armor itself in art, very thin on the legs and arms. It's good to know about the legs. Isn't the fluff for sisters power armor is it gives increased protection, aka a 3+ save, but doesn't increase strength, aka strength 3 instead of 4? Ahistorian
Exactly so, yes. The S4 is really due to SM augmentations - Inquisitors in power armour are also S3. General Strike
I really like Sgt Telions model with the armor on the knees too. If I wanted to be lazy, I think I would be okay with myself on scouts with GS'd knee armor, new heads, and a power plant on the back. I might have to be creative on the power plant, using scion packs or something. Scout arms will work with marine weapons too, such as melta, flamer, heavy melta, heavy flamer too. Since that is the main source of AT for SoB, that is a good thing for me. So, my plans for now: Box of Bolter Scouts Bitz: Scion Helmetless Heads Skitarii packpack with power cell Scion backpacks Heavy Flamer and Multi Meltas I will post pictures once I do, probably make a W.I.P. page in the forge for these alongside my Knights. General Strike
Greatcrusade08 has a thread, I found. It looks cool, but might be too marine like. Maybe I will grab some of the shapeways falconae helmets, from the reliquary. General Strike
Are the genestealer neophytes similiar in size to cadians? I was thinking of using their torsos.
