Ishagu
Recently I've not enjoyed browsing this forum as much, and I think I know why. There are vocal elements within this community that refuse to accept Primaris Marines, and are ultimately souring discussions about the different Astartes armies on multiple occasions. I've had instances where, upon giving a player advice about army building, or made suggestion about what models to explore, I've been told to stop recommending Primaris marines, or had users try to argue the suggestions I've made. This is happening more often than I would have expected, given the fact that the models have now been around for a year or so. Yes, some of you don't like the lore. I find it perfectly fine, especially following novels such as Crusade, Dark Imperium and Devastation of Baal. Perhaps some of you don't like what Primaris might spell for the older model lines. Some of you might simply be refusing to adjust. Here's a question, when is this going to stop? Recommending the new Marines to a forum member shouldn't be a summoning call for people to start defending the older models. Suggesting that elements of Primaris are included in armies is not something that should be argued against. The range is currently somewhat limited, but still functional and a lot less wasteful than the bloated Adeptus Astartes line that preceded it. There are some simple truths that have to be accepted. If you are the hobbyist who was happy with his/her model collection and wasn't intending to purchase anything new, then you really aren't going to be the main focus of Games Workshop anyways. I happened to complete a massive Ultramarine army mere weeks before the new Marines were unveiled, but I wasn't going to complain about it - it was simply a case of new models to collect and enjoy! It's been a year. It's time to move on. PS: Also, stop hating on Forgeworld! The most dedicated hobbyists enjoy working on and painting the resin models they make, and the rules aren't game breaking in any way. It's not 2014 anymore lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348680-when-will-people-stop-complaining-and-accept-primaris/ Share on other sites

Ishagu
Bait? Should I start pasting some of the comments I've seen around the forum? You're not actually a culprit lol Or are you making my point for me? Refusal to accept things have moved on and there might be an issue with the community. Commander Dawnstar
The simple answer is that there's no certainty that they ever will. Age of Sigmar still draws spite and derision in some public forums and spaces despite now being three years into its life-cycle and having made a lot of positive headway, and (to use an example outside of the Games Workshop banner) WWE crowds still haven't reached the point of begrudgingly tolerating Roman Reigns as WWE's top guy despite it now being four years since his ascent began. Radical changes to the status quo can be real base-breakers that don't just heal and go away, and the pushback doesn't ever have to stop, no matter how futile and destructive it might be. I own some Primaris models and was quite enthused to do something with them, but in truth I still don't really care for them as a concept and (broadly speaking) could do without the whole narrative shift that came with 8th Edition. It isn't something that appeals to me and GW still hasn't put out anything much since the narrative progression that's genuinely made me feel like 40k is better for being what it is now. Primaris exist and nothing I say or do is going to change that, but ... no, I still haven't really accepted them as something I particularly like or want in 40k besides their range having some models that I like. With the way things have been going I can't really imagine that's likely to change until perhaps 40k hits its own AoS 2.0 in an Edition or so and passes its own "The Age of Hope is dead" threshold. Marshal Rohr
I’m just being honest, Isahgu. You want to talk about it. I’ve got a Primaris army. I’m not happy with the changes anyway. There’s a spectrum of responses to the new releases and you want anything less that ecstatic happiness to be banned. Edit: I took a picture of your insult, no point in trying to hide it with and edit. Guest Triszin
Because, Primaris is hamfisted poorly written and poorly executed. additionally, for the price, forgeworld's quality is near that of what I expect copycats and forgers to create. it would've been accepted more if it was Corax who developed them. but it isn't. Tokugawa
Maybe when GW nerf disintegrators and other damage2 weapons? Aedari/Drukhari is undoubtedly tier1 army in tournament now. And every single competitive Drukhari list contains 3 Ravager, equipped with disintegrators. They just made Primaris "not suitable" for matches. I don't hate the lore, but the rules just cannot pursuade me purchasing more Primaris products. And the models are average to mediocre. If I must bring some "uncompetitive" units because of love of the models, that would be...Plaguemarines. Ishagu
The competitive aspect is an entirely different discussion but i totally agree. Marines in general are the absolute bottom of the barrel at the moment. Primaris at least have a few of the better infantry units. Dosjetka
Good grief. If you believe a post is off-topic/non-constructive: report it to the mods with a succinct explanation why it's off-topic/non-constructive. If someone continues beating a dead horse dead-er: continue reporting them to the mods with a succinct note. If someone is rubbing you the wrong way and you can't stand seeing their posts any more: the in-built ignore function is there to be used. Use it. There's no excuse not to. The system is still the same. Is it a bit of work to do the above? Yes, it is. But you're also contributing to improving the B&C "ecosystem" so there's no excuse to not go the extra few inches to help the (100% volunteer) forum staff out. Regarding Primaris, you can't force people to like something. Some people will dislike something but leave it at that. Others will harp on about it with no end. If you notice people doing the latter, use the handy point-by-point guide above. You'll be helping yourself and others which can only be a good thing. Last but not least, taking a break is not something to be frowned upon. Whether you don't like the direction GW is going in or don't like the tone of discussions on the B&C, you can always decide to take a short break, reassess the situation, and come back later. It's actually quite therapeutic (speaking from personal experience). slitth
I see Primaris as a missed opportunity. I like the models, and would have love this to be a start of a new model series with a bigger size marine. A remake of the old types of power armour so we can have the giant super soldiers the lord tell us about. The new gene-seed upgrades would have be fine if it was something that Corax made and had to be stabilized. That could have given us a excuse for a new stat base line for all marines. Instead we got Deus ex machina marines from Mars. And the only way I can justify the weird transport rules for Primaris can be sum up in one line. The Codex Astartes Does Not Support This Action Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348680-when-will-people-stop-complaining-and-accept-primaris/#findComment-5117568 Share on other sites
Robbienw
It will stop when GW make better Primaris models and fluff that appeal to more marine fans, it's that simple. If you really love Primaris Marines and hate it when people criticise them then you really need to learn to accept others views as differing. Your specific view on the topic is not the universal truth, when you accept this you will feel much better. :) Also, if you are going to make a slur against an army of models that people really like, you should not be surprised when you get push back. Especially if you try to claim said slur was a recommendation when it clearly wasn't. Guest MistaGav
The main bit of fluff I don't like in particular is the Deus Ex Machina of them at the moment. It feels like every story at the moment is 'X Chapter is taking heavy casualties, the primaris and Guilliman show up, everyone cheers and life is good'.The models are a bit blandish in their execution but the scale fits so well though. It makes the older marines look squat and silly by comparison but they also weirdly clash with the older models too. A terminator, dreadnought, Bikes models etc don't look so big and imposing now which is I guess a result of the scale creep. Overall I don't mind them but they do need some more options and flexibility in some of their loadouts. I just simply see them as more marines and tools to add onto an already massive toolbox that is the Space Marines.
