So are the Armiger Warglaives still worthwhile?

I want to add two mini Knights to my forces.

I really prefer the look of the Warglaives, but the Helverins have incredible guns and are cheaper to run as the Stubber is the better mounted option.

The warglaives' CC focus does have a place in my list but those 4D6 3 damage auto cannons are just amazing.

I haven't tried the Helverins yet, but I've noticed that the speed and melee capability of Warglaives makes them a solid Distraction Carnifex. I've only played a few games with pure Knights, but I don't think Helverins would pull as much fire away from my Questoris-class Knights as the Warglaives do.

They are good against different targets and armies. Where they excel is dealing with lighter vehicles, flyers (thanks to the Skyreaper strat) and multi-wound models that rely on invulnerable saves (like Necron wraiths). Necrons, Eldar, Tau and (to some extent) Death Guard are all good targets for Helverins.

Against conventional armoured targets you are better of running Warglaives where the combination of D3+1 melta shots and 4 S12 attacks will do more work (especially on such a mobile platform).

Helverins fill a niche in a pure Knight army but as allies, I don't rate them so highly. An Assault Cannon Razorback will clear chaff more effectively than a Helverin while costing fewer points and benefiting from character aura buffs. Plasma will deal with multi-wound infantry more effectively thanks to the better AP.

A Helverin's firepower and price-tag are similar to an auto-cannon Predator and they don't seem to be setting the meta alight at the moment.

Amazing timing Brother. I was/am looking to start a similar thread (Looking to add 750 points to my Warhawk 2k list). I also was curious on the either/or argument of which Questor Knight and Armiger style might compliment a Space Marine (<Raven Guard>) army.

On the Armiger issue (I want a 3CP SH Detachment) I’ve decided on the Warglaives.

Reasons:

- Provides solid anti-tank Primaris need.

- Has a versatile melee capability

- It’s speed is out to better use imo than the Helverins.

- Cheaper if using the Heavy Stubber option.

If (when?) I decide to expand to a full Knight army (DIY House) I’d definitely include a couple Helverins. For a supplemental detachment for a Marine army, I think if the Cannons were -2 AP I'd be sorely tempted to try fifty/fifty (sadly two in a box). With just the -1 AP though I don’t feel the unsaved wounds caused are less effective for a Primaris (mostly) army.

Are you running pure Knights? That effects the decision. A lot. Helverins fill a real niche roll in a pure Knight list. You can leave them back on home objectives and not waste half their points. Any other Knight in our Codex is wasted points if they don't get a charge off, you can't sit back with them and stay points efficient. Not so the Helverin.

In my (very subjective) opinion, no 2K+ points pure Knight list should leave home without two, if it's playing objective based games. Plus, yeah, its guns are great... At certain things.
