Which Questoris-class Knight as Raven Guard Oath Ally?

I’m only about half way to getting my DIY Primaris Marines (Warhawks <Raven Guard>) painted so my pile of shame is slowly getting smaller ... and I have a 20% off at my LGS burning a hole in my pocket. I was originally thinking Manticore/Guard for competitive purposes ... but have decided I’ll have less painting this way, and I’ve had Guard as a secondary army before (4th edition) so meh. Also Knights don’t look OTT for regular 40k as opposed to when they first hit the scene from FW.

Cool is also a factor for me. If Guard tanks looked more futuristic or hell even more modern I’d be more attracted to them but Knights, yeah very cool. Even the Armiger is growing on me. Not so much the Dominus yet.

Speaking of Armigers I’ve definitely settled on the Warglaives. I think they have more to offer a Raven Guard army than the Helverins. So my next step before ordering from the LGS is to decide on a Questoris-class Knight. I’ll probably be using Hawkshroud or Griffith rules. Durability or Utility? Not sure which is more effective until I play test but that’s the beauty of DIY :)

I was going to limit myself to 750 points but after working the numbers, if I also dump the Sentry Guns, I can afford the Warglaives and one of the following.

Errant: similar to the Warglaives so learning curve and anti-tank abilities are plus (Also Gerantius is my favorite color scheme of all Knights I’ve seen done)

Warden: Primaris need anti-tank but the Avenger is such a good weapon ... and it looks every bit at cool as the Thermal Cannon.

Crusader: MOORE firepower. Enough said. Also as opposed to the Helverins, this guy can actually still be effective in melee combat.

I’m strongly considering to see if the Renegade box can build two full Knights both with Reaper chainswords just because it’s cost effective. On other hand I don’t make choices because of money (sans FW products) in a hobby I’m spending this kind of money in. I am just as likely to double up on the Crusaders if I decide it’s my Knight of Choice.

That’s one hell of a long winded way of asking what BC’s resident Knight experts think as far as which Questoris-class Knight best allies with a Primaris Raven Guard style army featuring 4 units of Scouts, 2 units of Intercessors and 2 units of Aggressors with appropriate HQ choices to build the Double Battalion formation?

I appreciate any thought and suggestions on Questoris-class Knight and House ideas that would work best under the given parameters.

Thank you

Or you could just ask.

Yes you can build two full knights from the renegade box with reaper chainswords. You're limted to just a single avenger gatling, thunderstrike gauntlet, 1 missile pod (of either variety, choose the one you want), 1 icarus cannon, 1 shoulder melta. If you want the one knight to be an Errant, you can build the other as pretty much which other variant you want.

As for which knight you want, its really up to you. None of three you've listed is a poor choice, (no questoris knight is in my humble opinion)

Personally I would probably go with a Crusader that supports your attack dog armigers with immense firepower. Doing so gets you both the guns you wanted on the same knight if you want. Or if you wanted him to have the reaper chainsword, you could make both of the other knights, Errant and Warden, from the Renegade box if you got it. Or an Errant and a Crusader. You can't make both a Warden and a Crusader since you'll be missing an avenger.

The Errant is not my cup of tea really. It fills the same role as the Armigers and its efficiency will start to drop off once you run out of "big game" to hunt.

The Warden is a great "swiss army knight" in that it can tackle just about any job from shredding infantry and light vehicles with the Avenger to slaying big beasts with the Reaper Chainsword (better than the Gauntlet on a Warden IMHO). Add a stormspear pod for extra anti-tank and you are good to go. If you can only afford one big Knight, the Warden has to be a serious contender.

The Crusader is also pretty good IMHO. Although you lose out on a big CCW, you still have the Armigers for dicing stuff in melee and even with just its feet, the Crusader can crush most units short of dedicated melee specialists. I would go for the battle cannon rather than the thermal cannon as having a 72" range gun can always be handy for those occasions when you need to reach out and smite something cowering at long range.

I went ahead and ordered the Renegade Box and Warglaives. Thinking one of each of the above. Thermal Cannon for the Crusader so weapons are double up. I would like to purchase another Icarus, mainly because I think it just looks sharp as hell. Not much for magnetizing. It’s a Burden. ;)

I suspect I’ll be using a Scout based Raven Guard Detachment for CP and flavor when I make this a Knight army. So another Knight and couple Armiger Helverins probably to push it to 2k.

I could have sworn their was a House based on Hive World of Kiavahr but maybe that was just someone’s fluff I read in the Raven Guard forum?

Any thoughts on where to buy a “spare” Icarus Autocannon? ( ... and head swaps for the Armigers?) Shapeways has some interesting ones for the Knights. I’m thinking a Fates or Norn theme ... something with a theme of 3 characters (Could be named such because it is a smaller House that genetics predispose them to using primarily women pilots):D

I would consider taking some Intercessors as they work very well for Raven Guard. -1 to Hit is really strong on tough infantry and can make these guys harder to shift than terminators if you park them in some cover. If they are holding an objective, your enemy will have to spend serious effort to digging them out, something he is likely to find in short supply when facing Knights. Intercessors plug Knight's weakness by making great objective holders that are both fairly cheap, fairly durable and sufficiently long ranged to contribute to the battle while parked in a static position.

Raven Guard can also make great use of Boltstorm Aggressors with "Strike from the Shadows" to set up within range of the enemy and then unleash a storm of chaff-shredding firepower by double firing their bolstorm gauntlets. Horde units are the other type that Knights struggle with so a 3-man unit that can churn out 36 S4 shots each turn is a great option.

Scouts are OK but if you are running them, going Blood Angels to leverage the Red Thirst on the extra attacks makes more sense, as well as opening up options to get fun toys such as Captain Smash.

I found eBay to be extremely addictive sun I was in Battletech. I had to have a battalion of the old school metals including the LAMS.

Pricey. ;)

Found a site called Hobby Titan. Should have one coming in soon.

Also ordered to Primaris Captains with Powerfist from a site but I think that might have been a rip off. :(

Thanks on the mini knight keyword for shapeways. I’ll check it out.

Karhedronuk; I’m so use to Scouts for deployment shenanigans I forgot I won’t be using those in a Knight predominant army. Thanks. I love the Intercessors. Usually will only use to mini squads but I own 20 so there’s definitely ideas to work with.
