Delta.Skies
Wanted to do a fun 2k pure list, but didnt know much about primaris and how they operate. Is it possible for primaris to be a decent gunline or are veterans better. Wanted to do a detachment of 3 units of intercessors. But didnt know much about them. Combine it with a watch captain of either tome or dominus (not sure if a watchmaster can take it) with maybe 2 sentry guns. Thoughts and opinions? FabulousRex
Primaris work pretty well on foot, but make sure to use the 1.0 Marines for your hq, they are miles better in most respects. Primaris plus anti tank Dreads is a solid Pure Deathwatch option. Delta.Skies
My main battalion detachment would be 2 units of vets, 1 for deepstriking one on the table, then a unit of stalkers. 2 Razorbacks with lascannons, watchmaster, chaplain (he'll get placed in the second battalion), terminator captain, dreadnought and termies. Split between bikers or vanguard. And thinking of running a supreme detachment of librarians. Just need to know would it be essential to have intercessors as a gunline or is it better to use veterans to create a gunline. Inquisitor Red
I prefer to have intercessors over standard vets especially if your using them as basic bolter dudes. Better guns, better range, and with 2 wounds a pop almost no reason to use a standard Vet squad anymore unless your kitting them out with loads of special weapons. Lemondish
I prefer to have intercessors over standard vets especially if your using them as basic bolter dudes. Better guns, better range, and with 2 wounds a pop almost no reason to use a standard Vet squad anymore unless your kitting them out with loads of special weapons. Vet Squads are definitely the specialists of the troop options, but even a storm bolter vet squad will usually outperform an Intercessor unit, has better transport options for protection, and can gain access to invuln in their kill teams that Intercessors don't have access to. For the same cost per model you get twice as many shots with storm bolters (albeit at AP 0, but that's what SIA is for), and for a mere 5 points per you've now received all the protection you need against the weapons that really kill marines dead quickly, 2 wounds or not. Going full Primaris is certainly a valid option for DW, but there's a ton of tactical flexibility left on the table by dropping Veterans all together, which limits your options a bit. Easy enough to work around, of course, so you're absolutely not wrong there. Bloodchild
I know im late to the party, but here is a neat 2000 point Primaris exclusive Deathwatch army list. Dont be put off by the limited choices a pure primaris unit can take, the extra wounds for being primaris, the improved bolt rifles (and the Special Ammunition just makes it so much better) the Aggressors remove the penalty for advancing and firing for the unit and if you do bump into something the Inceptors allow your unit to Fall Back and shoot, again capitalising on those bolters and special ammo. The 2 9man units that have the Hellblasters the 2 Dreadnoughts and the Watchmaster stay in the backline (objective camping) hence the heavy incinerators and Stalker Bolt Rifles (36" range) all these units will be laying down blankets of fire taking advantage of the Warlords relic (Tome of Ectoclades, re-rolling wound rolls of 1 (if attacking a unit that matches the Mission Tactic) ...handy as Deathwatch doesnt have Lieutenants) The other 2 9man units that have the Aggressors/Inceptors advance, the 2 Watch Captains and Apothecary follow behind. As stated before just keep falling back if your enemy wants to engage in hand to hand and keep firing, or if they are not keen on hand to hand charge them after you shoot to tie them up, then next turn Fall Back and shoot (if you had a Bike in the unit (veteran unit only, not intercessors) you could then re-charge after firing to keep this tactic going... but alas, besides this tactic only suits an assault unit, whereas this is obviously a shooty unit) ++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Imperium - Deathwatch) [75 PL, 1438pts] ++ + HQ + Primaris Watch Captain [6 PL, 98pts]: Power sword .
