noigrim
I plan on bringing a knight to support my guard, now the obvious choice would be the sanctuary bu in the two games I've played againt a knight he would have won if he had the macharius banner. Also mind that the rr1 strat is mech only so no banner for them Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348733-crusader-relic-dilemma/ Share on other sites
Marshal Reinhard
You're bringing a crusader? Endless fury, the relic avenger gatling cannon, would be my first pick Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348733-crusader-relic-dilemma/#findComment-5118958 Share on other sites
Stray
+1 for endless fury. Don't forget that if you feel the banners effect is important, you have the option of the 'Sworn to a Quest' (think that's the right name) freeblade trait. It'd work well on the faster Armigers, and they're cheap enough to take one or two with your Crusader. Prot
Endless Fury is all I use on a Crusader. Raven House Strat makes it even better. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348733-crusader-relic-dilemma/#findComment-5119162 Share on other sites
rgr_maddog
In a similar boat, bringing one Crusader in a Super-heavy Auxiliary detachment to support an army. Wanted to clarify that this one knight dosen't need to be a Freeblade. Secondly, it can be from any household to gain access to specific stratagems and heirlooms, but not household traditions, right? Lastly, if I make him my warlord he gets one heirloom/relic and can still use Heirlooms of the Household stratagem to give him a second heirloom/relic? There's no "no modle can have more than one" statement like in Exalted Court. You can have a Trait and a Relic, but never two traits, or two relics. librisrouge
If the enemy is packing decent hordes, Endless Fury is golden. I’ve had great success with the relic AT missiles too. You can have a Trait and a Relic, but never two traits, or two relics. It might be cheesy, but I think RAW you can get 2 Heirlooms/relics by using the Heirlooms of the Household stratagem for one and then nominating that model to be your Warlord for the second. I don't see it anywhere that modles can't take 2, and even some "named characters such as Canis Rex already have one or more" (Codex, p. 114, emphasis mine) setting up a RAI argument. It's also very clear you can't do the same to double up on warlord traits. However, I could easily be missing something obvious, being new to Knights. Stray
"If your army is led by an IMPERIAL KNIGHTS Warlord, then before the battle you may give one of the following Heirlooms of the Noble Houses to an IMPERIAL KNIGHTS CHARACTER. Named characters such as Canis Rex already have one or more artifacts and cannot be given any of the following heirlooms." "All of the Heirlooms of the Noble Houses that your army includes must be different and be given to different IMPERIAL KNIGHTS CHARACTERS." It's pretty clearly stated that you can only have one per character. In the case of Canis Rex, it's just stating that Canis Rex already has it's Relics allocated so can't be given additional ones from the list. This is basically a rule across all codexs. No character (unless one exists with a rule specifically exempting them) can have more than one relic. Try it out in BattleScribe for instance too - it'll flag your list as illegal or just prevent you entirely (depending on your version) if you try and give multiple relics to one Character. It'd be nice :) - but sorry buddy. No dice on this occasion. rgr_maddog
Maybe I'm being a bit too WAAC, but your quotes are exactly why I think you could - just reverse them. If I use the stratagem I am not violating any of the conditions. Then I nominate him as warlord to give an additional "one of the following Heirlooms". Maybe that's out of some sequence, but all of it happens before the game. To be fair, if we were talking about this before a game between us, I would have dropped this as a possibility and enjoyed playing with a single heirloom. If I use the stratagem I am not violating any of the conditions. That's just it, you are though. It says implicitly each relic in your army must be given to a different Character, thus, no Character could ever have two right? Beyond that, it's a general rule in 8th edition across the board unfortunately. I completely see your point, and it'd certainly open up some interesting opportunities, but it's just not legal in play I fear :/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348733-crusader-relic-dilemma/#findComment-5119967 Share on other sites
Karhedron
I plan on bringing a knight to support my guard, now the obvious choice would be the sanctuary Sanctuary does not seem like a good choice for a Crusader as it does not want to be in melee against CC specialists. The Crusader is great at fire support but should only be moving up to stomp on targets that are not going to be hitting with AP-3 or above. If you want a defensive upgrade for a single Knight then the 2+ save relic is pretty good. It really helps to protect you from "death by a thousand cuts" and works against both melee ad shooting attacks. Otherwise, Endless Fury is very good as others have observed. DeStinyFiSh
I have the following setup in my mind: Taranis Crusader with Endless Fury, RFBC and Ironstorm Missile Pod plus Knight of Mars WLT. On Average that is 22,7 hits per round without the Flamer, so there should be some 6s to get the extra AP. If you make him Knight of the Cog for 1 round for rerolling 1s I think that is a lot of Dakka with decent to good AP. Redtoof
Took a Taranis crusader with the Endless Fury today, I rolled poorly so it wasn’t so helpful. I wish I had taken the Fury of Mars instead, struggled against Deredeos and a Spartan. My opponent was surprised I didn’t take that option.
