Using Hawkshroud For a Bruiser Lance?

Recommended Posts

So I like the House Hawkshroud tradition, it served me pretty well in my last game, but my next one will be stepping up about a thousand points and I  plan on running a more purpose-built lance.

I'm looking at two options

Acheron   ( Ion Bulwark )
Gallant   ( Paragon Gauntlet) ( Landstrider )
Gallant    ( Helm of the Nameless Warrior )

or

Lancer    ( Landstrider )
Gallant    ( Paragon Gauntlet )  ( Ion Bulwark )
Gallant     ( Helm of the Nameless Warrior)

The guard force they are supporting is just a few infantry units and  4 russes with 3 basilisks

The question is, which variation of the lance do you think will be more effective?
Would you change the household tradition?

While I like the idea of playing Imperialis I can run  Mechanicus just fine as its a custom color scheme house.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank in advance.

I think either would work well, but I'd drop 'Helm of the nameless warrior' for 'Ravager' on your second Gallants.

I think people underestimate just how good Ravager is. It's not quite as effective as the Paragon Gauntlet, but it's a pretty close second and FAR more effective than the stock melee options. It also has re-roll 1's built in, which as you hit on twos anyway, for my money puts it WAY above the helm in usefulness when you take the extra damage you'll do into consideration also.

My default loadout on any pair of Gallants would almost always be one with Paragon, one with Ravager - they are just that good.

If you are running double gallant/lancer or acheron, I'd be tempted by Terryn.

Roll extra d6 for moves and assaults

Warlord trait of rerolls charges for the lancer.

Just improves the force considerably imho.

Although Cadmus's trait would certainly help those river dance attacks vs hordes.

I'd echo Herm here.

With our CP issues essentially resolved, Terryn becomes very attractive in assault-centric Knight lists. Competitively, it's been getting a lot of attention due to the very safe charges, but also due to 'Glory in Honour' - getting to fight twice with something as powerful as a Knight is frankly insane. If you can connect with a target and are willing to use the CP, it's dead - unless you have the worst luck with dice in the world.

The worst place in the world to be if you're running an assault based Lance, is in front of your target having failed a charge. Hawkshroud is a nice safety net for degradation, but I feel you can mitigate more damage by being able to effectively control the assault game. You can't take incoming fire once you're in combat for example, and you're fast enough that you should be able to pick and choose your fights effectively.

I'm using both the ravager and paragon gauntlet in the same lance to great effect.

Since you're going hawkshroud i won't fanboy over krast, but so far from my personal experiences I think that ion bulwark on the archeon is a good choice, probably better than landstrider. it's already moving 14 inches, and if it's next to the landstrider gallant I still think it gets +2 to charge anyways, so may as well get extra protection. The flamer on that thing can do some serious damage even when wounding on 5's, and it can probably soften the food for the galant's charge and such.
