Radu
Hello! I have been playing since second edition, always as my favored Wolves, and I have about 40-45,000 points of painted wolves, but no Primaris. I fell out of playing around 7th, and am trying to get back in and I was wondering if it's even worthwhile to keep up my old minis or if they are going to disappear soon? Should I switch to Primaris? How even do Primaris marines work with the Canis Helix? Are they going to force us into a Primaris only for "true scale" purposes and to sell more, even higher priced models, or will the mix maintain? Just curious as I am out of the loop on things like this and am trying to decide how best to spend my time getting back into the game. Thanks! clanfield
hi and welcome ,sounds like a awesome collection ,I would stay as you are the codex is coming soon ish next few months# as to the question of primus we only really have the ashes of Prospero novel and that's not that clear I took that the chapter is mixture of both types now its been 100 years since the storm that split the galaxy.so maybe add a squad or two ,personally I'm waiting for the codex as we may get a upgrade sprue for the primus and I love my wolves being all runic etc will Russ come back I don't think so 100 years on its not the wolf time yet, hope this helps Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348743-oldnew-wolf/#findComment-5119196 Share on other sites
wilkco
Currently i do not run any primaris in my lists mainly becuase i am waiting for the codex to come out. The guy i play against regularly has a good mix of all of them however the hellblasters really stand out as being good. But on the downside they arw very fixed on what they bring in weapons where our units troops are very flexible in what we can bring as additions. Rune Priest Jbickb
HW has repeatedly said they are not removing regular marines so mo need to selloff your impressive collection unless you are looking to make cash for new ads. Unfortunately you may want to hold off on what to add until we get a codex and see what's good but he'll banters and intercessors are likely a good start if you want to start on primaris Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348743-oldnew-wolf/#findComment-5119265 Share on other sites
GalaxyChief
Brother! You can't come in here and make the statement that you have 45k in painted wolves and not show us pictures of any of it! Come on..... That's worse than eating ice cream in front of your children and telling them they cant have any! Wolf Guard Dan
Welcome back. No need to sell anything off. If GW ever get rid of the regular marines it won't be for a very long while. People are predicting that there will be no new regular marine kits produced. This doesn't really impact SW because we have a mature range. Ragnar is the only guy that needs an update. And it sucks for Ragnar fans that he probably won't get updated. We don't quite know yet how the Primaris will interact with the gene-seed. Primaris are supposed to be more stable but we will see. My recommendation is to wait for the codex to be released. We probably will get it in 1-3 months. GW have done a decent job with internal balance of codexes. You will probably enjoy being able to play everything from your large range. Kasper_Hawser
Hello! I fell out of playing around 7th, and am trying to get back in and I was wondering if it's even worthwhile to keep up my old minis or if they are going to disappear soon? Should I switch to Primaris? Just curious as I am out of the loop on things like this and am trying to decide how best to spend my time getting back into the game. Thanks! Welcome back Radu. Hope you were not too traumatized by 7th edition. For my part, there came a point when I stopped playing and took a 6 month break before 8th edition came in 2017. As a mono-army myself, I would advise you that your so called "mini marines" are still capable of kicking butt. May not be as fancy or effective or efficient as the latest cheese (looking at those damned giant robots craziness these days), but we get the job done, and beat the codex compliant chapters while we're at it. For now, I will say just get one or two squads of each kind of Primaris. Intersperse them with your list to experiment. From my experience, Intercessors can be surprisingly resilient in objective camping, and actually make good body guards for your characters who will most likely be in the open giving their buffs. And of course, hellblasters are near cheese level. Though Long Fangs are still more reliable and flexible. I won't say they suck completely, but they're.... not that much better than our usual mini-marines in terms of damage. In terms of resilience though, definitely beat the Greys, but the lack of transport...... can be get around thanks to cunning of the wolf strategem so is actually viable. Just don't face the Knight madness with Primaris unless you specifically taylor, with a horde of Hellblasters with Wolf Lord and Battle leader support, and rune priest for good measure. On the topic of your 45K, wow, 45,000 points, I wonder how you calculate it. Off the bat, it sounds like 3,461 Grey Hunters/Blood Claws. A Land Raider costs about 250 back in 7th, now its more like 350 (for the lascannon variant), but even with 45,000...... wow wow wow. If I calculate ten of everything with 8th edition points.... 10 Stormwolves 10 Land Raiders Crusaders 10 Rhinos 10 Razorbacks 10 Predators - 10 Drop Pods - ... along with maybe 100 grey Hunters, with a 1 third ratio for plasma, melta and flamers 100 grey Hunters 30 grey hunters with melta 30 grey hunters with plasma 30 grey hunters with flamer ...then maybe about 30 characters of average 150 each (roughly a TWC cost) LOL, only comes up to 18K points. Multiply that by 2.5 and then you get 45K. Unless you say you included a titan inside there, in which I won't be pleased. Nearly forgot about the dumb TWC, but even with 30 of them, the total now comes to 20K points. I'm also guessing you have forgeworld models, but even then, assuming a Thunderhawk is roughly 1000 points, you need 27 of them. Holy wow, I can only imagine a garrage with an entire wall of models. Radu
LOL! I don't really have any pics as I moved recently and it's all boxed up still. As for the points calculations, I can say definitively that there are NO Titans...yet....my wife said I could get a couple once I finish my PhD. I have two Thunderhawks, but mostly troops and transports. Like I said.....since 2nd edition. I could field an entire chapters worth of scouts, both old second edition and the newer, lone wolf scout styles. I have lost track of the number of GH and BC I have.....but lots of jumpacks and bikers. a LOT.....and I mean a LOT of plasma to go around (I love plasma....especially when it goes critical on me) "If it's not dangerous, it's not fun!" About 10 land raiders, a massive amount of rhinos, razorbacks, drop pods (including some original FW drop pods)....Enough for about 2 chapters worth of wolves....too many dreadnoughts, and a few versions of Bjorn the Left Handed, as well as Santa and his sleigh.... People used to just give me marines when they got out of the hobby, I'd slap some blue-grey on them and a few accessories and BAM! Greyhunters to the rescue!I've got a couple of platoons of tarantulas (back in the day) and waaaaay too many second and third edition servitors for my Iron Priests. So yeah.....you play a mono-army for 23 + years, it builds up (started in 1995). So yeah.....you play a mono-army for 23 + years, it builds up (started in 1995). In any case, welcome back. Somewhat inspiring to hear you played only Space Wolves for 23 years, almost inspires me as these days, I at times despair being mono-army when everyone and their dog is bringing Knights and God knows other unholy combinations, like Mortarion, Magnus and Guilliman together in an army. Yet I still insist on my Grey Hunters and Long Fangs carrying the day in an age when tactical marines are no longer efficient. Though I imagine the "allies" system was only brought in around 6th edition in 2014? So before that, everyone would have to have been mono army, unless they own multiple armies which they nevertheless have to play one only, not mix and match like right now unholy combinations. Waldwolf
Welcome Back, you got us hooked!! Time for unboxing and take pictures ;) For me, i am not buying Primaris until the new codex comes out. And even then i am not convinced i am gonna use them. I just included the heresy mk3 and mk4 and i m not gonna paint squads of powerarmor dudes soon ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/348743-oldnew-wolf/#findComment-5123101 Share on other sites
