Company Veterans with 2 Pistols?

Hello

I was looking into Veterans lately ans now i am wondering if it ispossible to give them 2 pistols.

As the Codex says each one comes with a Boltpistol and a chainsword.

And any Marine can replace his boltpistol with an item from the Pistol liste.

They also can replace their Cainsword with an itme from the Pistol list.

So i could be possible to give one Marine 2 Plasma Pistols?

Rules as written? Sure.

But why would you want to? Sure you can shoot into melee (if you're in melee) with both pistols, but you have no melee weapon yourself to want to be in melee, you have a max range of 12 inches, and two pistols costs more than a plasma gun and chainsword.

The main point be if don’t want to charge but be charged or stay locked for a couple of rounds. As the Plasmagun around turn 2-3 will start having less usage as you or other folks get locked in combat. Meaning you’ll have two good rounds of shooting.

The Double PlasmaPistols setup means shoot it on charge and overwatch. Then you can stay in combat and go bam bam. While PlasmPistols don’t shoot from far so cannot do so. Wanting you push up close and personal.

If they are dropping units off deep strike, is best place for TwinPlasm Pistols, as you can shoot them. Overwatch if failed charged. Then if and when you are charged. You can shoot them in the following shooting phase.

5 man Company Veterans do not stay in combat long.

That's the key thing about T4 1W models. If you don't kill them, they will kill you.

Aye, the typical Space Marine problem currently.

One that could probably easily be solved if marines in general (with the exception of maybe scouts) got a 1 wound buff. As it stands, it's really easy to wipe out a squad. If you're not giving Veterans either Storm Shield spam, or stacking great melee weapons, you have no reason to bring them. You can do so much better at 30 ppm. A 3 man inceptor squad with plasma exeterimators has more shots, more range, better toughness, more wounds, and can't be tied down at all...for a total of 27 more points or so.

It's more my point that if you're going to spend the extra 3 points for a Veteran Marine over a regular tac marine, you're not going to spend it on one S4 attack each, Buffing melee weapons or using invuln saves are probably the only remotely useful applications for them.

Honestly even the power fist approach is kind of dubious because Aggressors do that better at a little over 30 ppm.

Well i know that Veterans are useless for the Points and that they will die like fly's as ever other Space Marine these days, but i quite like their many options.

My plan was to put them in a Razorback and hopefully they will kill something.

And i know if i want to go Competitive i would give them all Stormbolters and Chainsword, or don't play them at all:sweat:

If you’re considering company veterans with dual pistols, you should think about vanguard veterans as well.

Since they can take jump packs, you’ll more easily get them into range of their target, and if they’re stuck in an unfavourable combat, you can fall back and still shoot the pistols in your shooting phase.
